You should ask Doug. He will tell you that Yamaha is the most reliable, most horsepower making motors out there, or is it Merc. Which one does he have this week? Or is it a Rude HO? I can't keep up anymore.

Re: 2004 yamaha vmax 200 efi (Cooney)

It's a good motor. I had a 2003 225 EFI on my last rig. From what I hear, it's still going strong.

    ...but yeah, ask Doug.

Actually I believe you will have less trouble with that motor versus the mid year HPDI's

I had an 02' 200 on a 190 Blazer than I ran for 2.5 years with no issues.

That motor is bulletproof man. If it is priced right, jump on it.

    04 yamaha vmax 200

My 2006 has been fine...and being retired, she gets the hours too...as always, use RingFree, change plugs/foot oil yearly, add a can of Sea Foam 2x a year, use good gas/ethanol treatment and don't run over 5.700rpms for pre-06 models. An owner can't do much more.

I know many different guys when the HPDI's came out...There were a lot of blown head gaskets
You didn't here a lot of that from th straight VMAX...f gure in the repair cost and you CANT burn that much fuel to justify....bout 05-06 they straightened out the issues from what I understand

The first year HPDI's came out they were over heating, but they fixed it with new stats and that was the end of that.

    Re: 2004 yamaha vmax 200 efi (firefighter7302)

Actually it is a very reliable engine no super great on fuel economy but reliable. I would have a compression test and leak down test done on it as well as check the lower unit oil after a quick demo ride before i committed to it.
