    Petro & off shore hands

I posted a while back asking some questions since my son was in school for a degree in Process Technology. Well he has completed his schooling and has an Associates Degree in Process Technology. Currently the refineries in Texas City are not hiring so he on the hunt for a J O B, and I'm ready to get him off MY payroll. Please give me a shout if y'all know of anything that would be "up his alley" for employment. Thanks, TT

No, does not have to be a refinery. Where he lives will be a choice he has to make. I'm pretty confident that sooner or later one of the local plants, (BP, Valero, etc) will be taking applications for Operator positions. I thought it might benefit him to get some industry experience offshore, maybe I'm totally wrong. I'm just puting out some feelers for him and who knows, maybe somebody will chime in and say, hey, here's a company that is good to their people with good pay and benefits. May be something that would interest him. Hell, he's 23 so he dang sho don't know exactly what he wants to do

Hey Troy if he can get on with a construction company in a plant it might help experience wise when they do hire. Marathon down here is always taking aps but don't think they are hiring now.

Things are pretty slow offshore right now. As said, maybe he can try construction until he can find an operator position open.

Re: Petro & off shore hands (Alan S)

He's doing construction work now for his buddys grandpa, homes and commercial building. but the work is not real consistent and no benefits. In fact they just did a 6300 sq ft home, biggest ever for the TV show Extreme Makeover, Home Edition. That did not pay $$$, but it certainly won't hurt his resume.
I appreciate y'alls replies and input

He should start looking online for possible training positions with Shell or any other major oil company. Every now and then they will recruit young people and train them. Either that or he can apply with Baker Energy, C&D Production or any other operators that cater to the majors. It will get his foot in the door.

Damn the luck is right. It seems most of the guys here that were supposed to retire decided to stick it out a little while longer due to the economy.

Yeah when the Feds lowered the interest rate it allowed people to delay retirement without losing money.

    Dude WTF???? No shout out???

Kyle is right. SHELL has an NOP (new operating personnel) program where they hire kids with degrees right out of school and train them for a probation period(6 months I think). Some are offered positions and some do not make it.

I sent you an IM with my email address if you think he would be interested in working offshore, email me his resume and I'll see if someone has a trainee/entry level position open.

We work for most of the majors (SHELL, CVX, BP, etc.). Our website is

Great that he's found a job, hopefully he'll get some incentive out of this one, to look harder for a better one.
