    yamaha remote oil tank leaking top

    I keep having a pesky leak from the lid of the remote oil tank even after tightening it to the max.. I noticed yesterday that there is no gasket in it. Is there supposed to be one? Possible fixes? Suggestions? Thanks much, as always.

    I had one a few years ago that cracked. The threads were all fine and intact, but there was a crack where the threads met the top. So the crack was circular in shape, and the tighter you tightened it, the bigger the crack got, and the worse it leaked. Check that out.

    mine seems to have a small amount of oil on it after a day of running as well

    Ditto...mine has leaked since the day I bought it I have a rag around the top to keep it from getting all over. It's just enough to wet the rag, which I change out once a month...

    It comes out of the vent in the cap. Try to not fill the tank all the way to the top. I replaced the cap twice before I figured this out.

    I cut a small piece of a rag and tied around mine. No longer leaking on the tank, but it still seeps. OBTW, this is my 3rd Yamaha and all have had the same problem.

    Mine does the same thing and so did my last 130.

    Leave about an inch of space at the top when you fill it. Evinrudes do the same thing just as my Yamaha use to. I never have found a viable solution to this problem. It sure makes a mess!
