    Oil Question

I saw on one of the posts where you guys were talking about the price of the oil. $30 a gallon for the XD-100. My question stems from having no boat experience. I have ridden 2 stroke dirt bikes my whole life and a pint is only good for about 4 gallons of gas. So am I going to be buying a gallon of this stuff every time I fill up the gas tank? How long does a gallon of oil usually last on a 2000 225 ficht? Thanks guys and Happy New Year to all.

    Re: Oil Question (Hawkeye)

So on a normal fishing weekend. No tournaments this thing isnt going to drink 60 gallons of gas is it? I haven't taken this boat out yet. I just had the vision that every weekend I take it out I would have to fill it up. I am pretty sure it has a 60 gallon fuel tank. Also we have pretty small lakes in colorado so if I run WOT it would be on the interstate getting to the lake.

    Re: Oil Question (FSR1)

Your motor will consume on average 1 pint of oil for every 6 gallons of gas at WOT....IE: 50/1.

The amount of oil/fuel it consumes is directly affected by the way you run the motor.

    Re: Oil Question (FSR1)

I bought mine in late July and I don't think I burned a tank of gas till mid November and I fished about 3 out of every 8 days. Don't think I ever had more than 25 gallons of gas in it. My lakes run 350-2000 acres and and I even do a fair amount of trolling for stripers but generally I run 1/4 tank of gas, why tow 350# of gas around? I think that motor burns about 14 gph at WOT and it takes 3 minutes to run end to end on the biggest lake. Unless you do a lot of run and gun you'll spend more on lunch if you're fishing small lakes. It's not a cheap sport but I have been very pleasantly surprised with my gas/oil consumption.

Woody, Let me understand you. You have fished 3 days a week for 16 weeks and you haven't used a tank of fuel with a 225 Evinrude. Why would you need a 225 if the biggest lake you fish is 2000 acres, that seems like a little HP overkill. I don't mean to bust your stones.

The Swedish Bikini team usually goes with me but on the sunny days the girls usually get tired of fishing and want to sunbathe and I needed all of the deck room I could get .................................................. ..... or

bought the boat used, was not looking for a 22' boat but finally shot the guy a real low offer on this one and he took it. Getting ready to retire again in the next 18 months, have family all over the midSouth and have always wanted to fish the TN river lakes, Pickwick, Guntersville etc so I'm just getting prepared. 350 acre lake 5 miles from the house that is loaded with bass, run out, fish and run in some days. don't burn a lot of gas

come to lake of the ozarks for a fishing trip--you will burn a tank of gas. 60,000 acres and over 1500 miles of shoreline. bring extra TM batteries.

Woody, I understand why you use so little gas now. I'm envious and a lot broker than you. I usually fish a LOZ like Chuck does, which is 66,000 acres and I went through 4 gallons of XD100 oil and 200+ gallons of fuel this past fishing season.

    Re: Oil Question (firecapt343)

The biggest 2 lakes in Indiana are less than 10,000 acres and they are way down south so it's hard to say anyone here needs a 225. I have a lot on a 300 acre private lake 2 miles away which is good on some days and the one 5 miles away was renovated in 2002 and the fish are just hitting 2# class and I can catch 10/hr on the good days. I do put some wear on the trolling motor. The nice thing about this boat is I can leave everything in the boat, leave it on the truck and be in the water in 15 minutes after I decided to go and it takes me less time to get out of the water than it did my flatbottom, had gotten to the point that I hated getting ready to go fishing, now I don't. The TR-22 grew on me the more I thought about it, I have brothers I have lived apart from for 30 years and now I have something 3 or maybe even 4 can fish out of so now I have an excuse to head south and we can all fish together. Still like to see some of those 6# brown bass from Pickwick and 8# from Guntersville, just don't have those quality fish here. How is Truman these days? Don't hear much about it anymore, hear a lot about Table Rock, is it that good?

Well you can always drop a line in the puddle down here that's 71000 acres and 1200 miles of shoreline known as Clarks Hill I can guarantee some gas burning on it!

    Re: Oil Question (Bassmeister)

Working on it Bassmeister. Badly need to find me a partner, work buddies are fishermen but mostly perchjerkers with young families and they can't just get away like I can. Most of my gear dates to late 80's when I quit tournament fishin' and upgrading that as well. Also badly need lessons on driving and fishing on those big lakes, fished Watts Bar one time in my jon and could not figure out why boat kept going upwind! Light bulb finally came on but I know it will be a learning experience, both the driving and the fishing. Besides which, these yankees up here won't eat grits and I'm afraid they might offend somebody and get our _$$es whipped Actually wish the rally was a little earlier so I could combine it with turkey season, cousin in S. Mississippi I would love to hunt with before them hills get any taller, we're gettin' a little long in the tooth. Stay tuned, hopefully you'll see me on the signup sheet once I get the wrinkles out.

    Re: Oil Question (woody912)

truman is still there, good fishing, but real spotty. they move the lake level all over the place and fishing responds accordingly. there aree only few places to stay close to the lake and tournaments dont seem to weigh that much fish. it is basically a flooded forest. you would think the bass would be all over, but they relate to bottom structure more than the trees. there is even a sunken railroad, 3 below the water surface at normal pool. more than 1 lower unit on the bottom there.

    have a great day
