Anybody info about HB 636 to 40mph speed limits on LA waters

It was considerded today in the HOUSE NATURAL RESOURCES it changes alot of other things but I don't like the 40mph speed limit it was added by Monica.

HB 478 provides for titling of outboard motors and this is just another way to get more money.

The House Bill 478 has to do with adding a title to your outboard motor if I beleave the value is above $2500 that would mean you would have to pay taxes and transfer fees not on just the trailer but the motor too. It also allows for someone to put a lean on it.

I don't know about spped but while I was getting me a ticket on the Tchefuncte the other day for a no wake zone I ask the useless officer about a speed limit he said that there is a 38 mph speed limit on the river but they do not inforce it.

You have to see about that "No Wake Zone" or "Idle Speed Zone". I've got a ticket in a "No Wake Zone" and the ordinance stated that my wave height could not exceed 16" from trough to crest they had no evidence plus at 80mph I wouldn't think the wave height was over that. Not long after that the signs changed to "Idle Speed Zone" with a new ordinance number.

I don't see how you can enforce speed limit without a factory install means of measuring mph not every boat has gps.

i am very upset that you call, and officer doing his job useless. i have been a law enforcement officer for over 20 years, and have written citations to just about every type of person on this earth. i have been called every name in the book. if you do not think that you broke the law, come to court. the posted speed limit for the river has been 36 mph sense the early 80's. the proposed bill would stop all major tournaments from coming to louisiana. sorry that i am upset, but i take pride in doing my job, and place my life on the line daily so that the area i serve can be safe for all. swat

I find them very useless when there patrolling a river instead of patrolling the streets where the real crime is taking place. There is no need for 6 cops to patroll the Tchefuncte in 3 seperate boats. It's not ridiculus it's ridonkulus. I believe it to be the LDWF to patroll the rivers and lakes in La. Maybe I'm wrong here but I was ideling thru a no wake zone and he pulled me over. Now I guess that St. Tammany sherrifs officers take classes payed from taxpayer monies to become experts on the heights of wakes. I'm glad that my tax money went to the Academy to train them on how to patroll streets and take down thugs that need to be taken down but reality is there cruising around in 28' cape horns protecting yachts from a 8 inch wake. Man were making progress......

guy's even though i am upset. we are getting off track. the real thing that we should be doing is fighting this bill, so that it will be shot down. thought that maybe i would come to the mini rally, but would hate to know that i am not welcome.

swat, i wouldn't let that stop you from coming to the rally. every body has opinions and more often times than not they differ. i think that this is what is good about this forum. you can see different sides and different views of topics. don't mean that one is right and one is wrong. we all share 2 common interest are we wouldn't be on here. boating and fishing also sometimes reading a conversation may not come off as it was intended.

I think Monica is the rep. Probably got some feedback from the bad boating accident last year. There is some life jacket stuff in there and also some safe boating stuff too. They ought to just make it mandatory for all to wear life jackets when a boat is above idle speed instead of all the age, motor type etc restrictions.
