Calcasieu River

Do any of you guys fish the Calcasieu? My 12 year old son is fishing in the Junior Bassmasters State Championship later this month and we have never even been down there. The tournament is out of Moss Bluff, Portside Marina I think.

Does anyone have any hints or ideas what to look for or what to throw?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I fish it a lot, and have won some money on it. Have not been in awhile due to it being very muddy! I might go hit a few spots next week and see what I can find.

If I ever get home from offshore, I have some area's on a map that might help you some..........I hope to be home by next weekend......
I have fished out of Sam Houston State Park a couple of times.......

From the Sam Houston State Park to the river itself, is a good run, and it is full of docks & ditches to flip around. Also there is a bridge with good deep water..... Across from where the bayou/houston creek dumps into the river, there is some open flats under the power lines, also if you turn right just when you enter into the river there is a cut to your right that goes a long ways in there, fish both sides..... if you turn left into the river, you can run a little ways and there's a island to your right, fish around it and there is a creek to the right hand side of the island, I think the name is English Creek, try there also......if you keep running north up the river, you will find many cuts and coves, there is also another big bridge farther north that has a lot of cover around it, or did.......

By the way does anyone know if there is such thing as a map for the Calcaieu?

There is a lunch before you go into the park, not sure the name of it or if it's the one they will be lanuching from.......

I have a map, but I'm offshore until at least next weekend......you can also do a google earth and download a so-so map......
