2004 HPDI got submerged in water then died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was fishing a tourny in rough water and was returning to ramp and stuffed a 4' roller. Motor went under the water and died and wouldn't start back up. Motor won't crank, starter good. Could motor be blown? Didn't here anything, no alarm or bang. Pulled plugs and no water or moisture found. Any ideas?

Hard to say, maybe a fuse.If motor will turn over check to see if you've got fire to the plugs.Something electrical is my guess, but cant tell ya what for sure. Sorry cant tell ya more Some body gonna help you out on here for sure.

I would give all assessable electrical connections a shot of CRC contact or like cleaner and then reapply a good isolator grease. Make sure everything is completely dried out. I agree it is most likely electrical but would also drain the VST and you may want to remove the silencer and clean that out making sure there is no debris in there. Once done give it a whirl.

Might want to pull the plugs and make sure the cylinders did not get water in them. If so hydraulic pressure can wreck your motor... just a thought... good luck and let us know how it plays out... of course fuse and kill switches should be checked first also!!!

Removed the plugs and no moisture. I tried to move the flywheel, jamb solid but will move counter clockwise a bit. All pistons move when i turn the flywheel the little i can. When i try with the key the motor stops in the original position.

That sounds like a bent piston rod. Water doesn't compress very well.

Sorry you have trouble....I would remove the lower unit and remove the spark plugs to eliminate the slight possiblity of it being locked spin it over by hand if that doesnt work call HT

That sucks man sorry to hear it. I had my own nightmare with big rollers just a month ago luckily the motor was the only thing that didn't get wet.

Time to call the insurance man and go see HT

Got a call from mechanic today, bent connecting rod on #6 piston. Bent rod hitting the block. Hopefully my insurance will cover the repair cost.

How does something like that happen from hitting a wave? Did it come out of the water, wind up and then got dunked? I speared a wave so hard that it stopped me dead at 70! I flipped over the console and landed on the front deck on my back. Trolling motor was bent and everything. A couple of days later I blew the #5 piston. Could that have been the cause?

I was doing 8-10 mph at most going over 4' rollers and caught one that pushed me backwards into another one. the motor took a wave over the top and motor died. Sucked water into the air intake.

Man I was in almost the same exact situation just last month. Ended up beaching the boat and watching it fill with water for the next few hours. Thank the lord my motor was not wet just everything else covered in water and sand and mud
