I have a 2008 Vmax HPDI 250 series II with water press. issues. When the motor was new it had 25+ psi now that the motor has 26 hours on it I can only get about 6 psi. If I drop the lower unit to inspect the impeller will this void my warenty? I can wait 6 weeks for the dealer to repair this! Also what could be possible causes of this problem. This motor is flushed after each use. Thanks for any info you can offer.

I would say its the heat causing the low psi. HPDI'S psi drops alot in the summer heat and its been real hot.This past Sat my 250 would only get 10 psi. I would check your poppit valve before i dropped the LU. I dont know about the warranty part but you might want to bring it in if it does not get a little better.

Ditto on checking the poppit valve. If that doesnt do it it's possible the thermostats could have a little trash holding them open . This would make the engine run cold and foul plugs fairly quickly.
Before you do anything, check the screens on the side of the gearcase where the water comes in, if they are loose at all, they create an air void and you'll loose pressure. Tighten them up and you'll be good to go.
I have the low water pickup on this motor and the screens do not seem to be loose. Is there a screen on the inside of the lower unit I would need to check?

I dropped the gear case Monday and the water pump in fine. I flushed and I am going to run again this afternoon and see what I get. Will let you now tomorrow

If your pressure is still low then check your poppit valve.They do get clogged up sometimes.

OK ran the boat yesterday afternoon. Water temp was 90.5 on the coosa river. I had 7 psi at 3500 rpms, 10psi at 4500 rpms and 14 psi at 5500 rpms. I had a strong stream coming from the motor at the higher rpms, so that made me feel better. I ran the boat around a good while back and forth between the rpms stated and the alarms never went off. I am still going to check the popit valve though.
Well droped the lower unit tonight and the impeller looked like new and clean. Also checked the pickup screens they were also clean and tight. Oh well looks like I may have to see how good the warrnty is on this thing.

Oh well it's not the gauge!It started off at 22 psi at WOT but it dropped quick to about 10 psi once on plane trimmed down

It really sounds to me like its just the thermostats opening up causing your lower water pressure. But you need to check out the pressure control valve AKA popit valve even a small grain of sand or two will hold it off its seat and cause lower water pressure. I used to fight this all the time until I installed the newer one no problem since

Had this issue on mine when it was new. I would have plenty of PSI until I hit 50 then it would drop way off.
I had a clogged poppit valve, it wouldnt hardly get to 10 PSI.
I have also noticed as the water temps have gotten warmer, my pressure has fallen. Was getting 25-30 in the winter, now 15-20.

Sorry to butt in but I dont have a manual for my HPDI but what PSI should I look for at say idle, 3500 rpms and WOT???

I have said this twice but i guess it just did not sink inguys if you lose pressure check your poppit valve before you drop the lower unit.When you lose pressure in a short period USUALLY its the poppit,If you dont know about it do a search there is pics that show you how.This time of year most the time its the heat causing the problems.
