    Interesting read

    In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinborough , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:
    "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always
    followed by a dictatorship."

    "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    From bondage to spiritual faith;
    From spiritual faith to great courage;
    From courage to liberty;
    From liberty to abundance;
    From abundance to complacency;
    From complacency to apathy;
    From apathy to dependence;
    From dependence back into bondage."
    The Obituary follows:

    Born 1776, Died 2012
    It doesn't hurt to read this several times.

    Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul , Minnesota ,
    points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

    Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29
    Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000
    Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million
    Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2
    McCain: 2.1

    Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was
    mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

    Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income
    tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

    Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
    "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy,
    with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached
    the "governmental dependency" phase.

    If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal
    invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the
    USA in fewer than five years.

    If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.
    If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

    This is truly scary! Of course we are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic .
    Someone should point this out to Obama. Of course we know he and too many others pay little attention to The Constitution. There couldn't be more at stake than on Nov 2012.

    If you are as concerned as I am please pass this along.

    I sure hope some of you guys know more about fishing then you do politics , when the gop does away with social security and medicare you may be broke at a old age and need to eat those fish , heck see where they do not like people bitching at them at town hall meetings so they want to charge , so they get people, like some of you, to agree with them , but I am old and have drank to much cool-aid in my life so what would I know , but the look on some of your faces 20-30 years from now ,would be priceless when your broke and can not retire! I wish people could learn to think for them selves, and not think everything they read is the truth, I do not agree with everything he has done , but the Right Wing GOP is sure in the hell not what is good for America , and you will find that out when you are ready to retire, only wish I could see the look on your faces when that day comes , onward to 60,000

    Re: Interesting read (The Bulldog)

    I really get a kick out of these little emails and such that I get like this. I don't care if your Dem, Rep or what the hell ever, politicians will say anything for a vote. And every damn one of them has their hands in each others pockets regardless what side of the line they claim to be on.

    Trying to blame one side or the other is utter BS. The Democrats blame Bush, the Republicans blame Obama for the direction this country is headed in. While we sit here and bicker over who's to blame we have honest folks who have worked all their lives that have lost everything while the politicians still get a pay check, still get health benefits, still get retirement for doing a piss poor job.

    How do we fix it? Hell if I know, maybe get some people in office that have actually had to live paycheck to paycheck each week, someone that has been in the grip of poverty. But I can tell you this, as long as we keep voting in people that have had a silver spoon shoved up their asses all their lives and haven't had to actually work for a living we aren't going to get anywhere.

    Sorry for the rant, I could go on all night. Just get tired of everywhere I look and everything I hear one side is blaming the other. All sides are to blame.

    The OP is fake by the way. Just another ploy to swing votes one way or the other. Below was taken from Snopes.com

    Origins: The item cited above began circulating on the Internet since shortly after the 2000 U.S. presidential election, reappeared briefly after the 2004 presidential election, and saw a strong resurgence (in a modified form which replaced the names "Bush" and "Gore" with "McCain and "Obama") after the 2008 presidential election. What follows is our analysis of the statements included in the original piece as it initially appeared in 2000, including information helpfully provided to us by Mike Powell of Kennewick, Washington.

    Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University was not the source of any of the statistics or the text attributed to him above. When contacted via e-mail, Professor Olson confirmed that he had no authorship or involvement in this matter, and as Fayette Citizen editor Dave Hamrick wrote in January 2001:

    Re: Interesting read (John Br.)

    Just to let you know Mr John Br , I to learned to live with-in my means , I retired at 56 on my own nickel, I pay my own medical and live the way people should, did what most people can not do , I raised my own son, and my 2nd wifes 3 childern, put them threw collage ,(NEVER DID I ASK FOR FEDERAL MONEY ) and always treated them as my own childern, but hearing these politicains talking about what they want to do to S/S AND medicare is not right , and cutting spending will help but not solve the problem, but people will find out about life when they are older and try to retire and medical cost them 1500-2000 a month. when It is all said and done there will be no retirement , of any kind ,including , military, police, fireman , and the average guy, I am 60 now so I will not get to see where this leads to 20-30 years from now , but I stand by my commits the look on their faces when they are older and can not retire will be priceless , onward to 60,000

    I commend you sir for being a stand up respectful man I work with young guys that spend every dime they make and never a thought of saving or preparing for the future, I suspect that I will someday look into their faces and see hindsight

    Re: Interesting read (John Br.)

    Thank you (John Br) I also see things with the younger generation, once they have kids ,they should be looking out for their future, when I see people with their fancy bass boats and have kids , I often wonder how many of them , really save for their kids future, all my life I saved 20% of what I made , just to retire early, never had a fancy bass boat , always figured a $10,000 rig could catch just as much as a $60,000 rig, , but like I said who am I , just a old guy that drank to much cool-aid when younger , onward to 60,000
