The Froggz Bass Club held itÂs first tournament of the year at Council Grove City Lake on March 26th. Air temps in the mid 30s greeted the brave anglers along with strong winds, snow, and sleet. The day only warmed up to 39 degrees, yet despite the less than desirable conditions, all of the anglers caught fish. Only one limit was weighed in due to a slot limit on largemouth and 15" limit on spotted bass. Plastics baits, jig/pig combos, jerk baits, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits accounted for most of the fish.
First place and big bass honors went to Wes Sowards from Manhattan who brought a five fish limit weighing 13.72 that was anchored by a nice 5.21 lunker. Wes said he caught about 20 bass throughout the day and weighed in three largemouth and two spotted bass. Most of his bass were caught on a Yum Big Show Craw.
Second place went to Roger Matthews from Fort Riley with four nice largemouth weighing 11.61. Roger stated he caught fish fairly steady throughout the day and was off to a quick start with six bass in the first 15 minutes of the tournament. Roger caught most of his fish on jig/pig combos and jerk baits.
Scott Smith from Junction City used a crankbait to catch a five fish limit of largemouths weighing 9.16. Scott also caught fish throughout the day but his four biggest bass were stacked on a secondary point.
Other notable fish catches:
Jay Avery with a nice one.
Matt Olday with a 3lber
And me with a pair of my better fish
