2004 HPDI tilt and trim excessive play in bushing

OK, have a question on my 04 225 HPDI.

I have almost a 1/4 inch of play in the bushing area where the tilt and trim rod goes into the motor housing area. It looks like bushing (part number 90386-22M98-00) has play around it when I lift up on the skeg. I have no play in the tilt and trim at all.

    Thouhts?

Re: 2004 HPDI tilt and trim excessive play in bushing (Carlos H)

ok, Here are my thoughts on this after I looked at the online parts catlog.

    1. Bushings referenced above are gone..either not installed or totally wasted.
    2. Through pin 64E-43126-00-00 (hard steel) has elongated the holes in the engine support/mount

All the parts I reference above are dealer only...so I took it in to have the dealer look it over. This went quickly from an easy fix for me to major warranty work.....

    Lovely

I had to replace mine as well... They slid out and were cracked. Plastic/nylon bushings.

I also have this problem with my 06 225 hammer, I am also having my power head replaced for the second time, I had 130 hr on the first one, and i put 100 hr on this one and the #1 cylinder is gone, and as far as the bushing yamaha will not cover it under the warranty.

I am trying to figure that out my self, I have a heavy duty jack plate and i always check the bolts on the jack plate. I am hearing about a lot of people having this problem with yamahas. IT is going to cost me about 360.00 to have the bushings replaced.

Did it mess up the engine mount any at all on yours? Mine looks like it is a bit wallowed out...

Also, did it look like the bushings were never in there on yours?

Re: 2004 HPDI tilt and trim excessive play in bushing (blazer taz)

dealer called on the way to new jersey today.

Bushings are a wear item, not covered under warranty. Also told me that my mount is "ok".

So, I have 9 dolalrs of bushings on order and will replace myself when I get back from Okinawa. Looks to be easy...I jsut hope the mount is really ok...

Good luck with yours and I will do an update after I replace the bushings in three weeks or so.....

    Bass,
I am back from Okinawa and wil get soem pics tomorrow or Sunday. I have the bushing on hand...I would advise all to check your bushings as they take TONS of pressure and are light plastic.....

Carlos, same thing happened to mine...had to replace whole swivel mount bracket. To do this you have to pull powerhead, l.u, motor mounts and then the bracket. Not a quick job....

    Hey man!

How bad was the bracket? Did you do the work?

Yammie guys here said my bracket was ok, but bushings were shot.

Warranty cover the messed up bracket?

Re: 2004 HPDI tilt and trim excessive play in bushing (Carlos H)

The bracket was shot...bushing would just about fall all way thru it. I had my dealer do the work because yamaha was replacing it all under warranty. It wasnt a simple job at all....

Re: 2004 HPDI tilt and trim excessive play in bushing (Vyper202)

    ok thanks for the info.

Looks like the bracket may be ok. Off to install the busings now.

Installed the busings, that took less then 10 minutes...good news is that the bracket is ok, bad news is that I have play at the bottom of the tilt and trim that I can see now that I have replaced the bushings....

On edit, make sure that you order 6 of these bushings......you have 4 at the top of the tilt and trim and 2 at the bottm of the pump assembly. I only ordered 4 of them...

Pics of the tilt and trim area with the new bushings (really white parts)
