    HPDI Trim noise

Looking for some ideas/help here guys/gals:

My 250 HPDI trim makes allot of noise when trimming up or down. High-pitched hydraulic sort of nosie. To me, it sounds like ALLOT of air in the system.

I just had the 100 hour done, and I asked my service guy to bleed the trim, thinking there was air in the system. He told me that the trim system is "self-bleeding" and there was no bleed procedure for it. He stated that he did add a little fluid to top it off. Now, it's even noisier than before. He said it was "normal for some of the Yamahas".

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem, or if anyone has done something to fix it.

Put some grease in the little pad the trim touches. All yamaha's do it

Daryl, you have to add grease about every three months to the ends of the trim rams, if you don't you get that squealing from the metal to metal contact.

I go ahead and wipe off the old grease with a paper towel, then apply a dap of the new grease. As stated above, just put a dab on the end (tip) of the ram.

Thanks guys, but I'm already keeping the rams and the pads greased well.

It's hard for me to explain the noise so I made a video. Of course today, it's not doing it anywhere near as bad/loud as usual. I think that the cold makes it allot worse.

If you watch the video and listen, the first time I raise the motor, just before it comes off the rams, you'll hear a high pitched, almost gurgeling noise, like the sound of fluid running through a line with allot of air in it. That's the sound I'm worried about, although like I said, it's normally allot louder, especially when it's very cold out (it's in the 60's right now).

I am not sure what is making that noise but it does sound like some air. As long as the system is not leaking keep using it. Otherwise it sound just like my yammie

Are all of the bolts tight? There are two (one on each side and down low on the bracket) that have a tendancy to get loose. They are on the outside of the brackets. Check them.

This is how you bleed the air in the trim.

Trim motor up all the way, loosen the manual release screw and let the engine drop all the way down. Tighten the screw raise the engine again. Do this 2 or 3 times and it should bleed all the bubbles out to the top.

I usually release the fill cap each time and observe, it there is any air in there it will usually have lots of tiny bubbles.

    Then top it off.

When I loosen the release screw is the motor going to come down fast and hard or slowly???

Just release it enough to let the motor start to slowly come down...Don't back it all the way out...
