If its just the skeg that needs paint, I found that using gloss black blends in fine. Mask/tape to the top of the skeg (at the bullet), clean up and spray the black. Looks identical, even in sunlight.

Thanks for the input, I also need some paint in the bullet area of the lower unit as well so it is probably best if Itry to match it. If anyone can lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it.![]()

The Duplicolor GM 505 Met blue is a perfect match.... No way black is gonna match blue in my book.

+1
I didn't think it would match when I heard about (using black on the skeg), but I say don't knock it 'till you try it- surprised me also!

NO LUCK! Went to Autozone and Advance auto...both had the paint in a "pen" type deal but not in cans and will only order it in bulk....
Any other possible locatons???![]()
Still can't find it anywhere around here!![]()
Pull the boat up to an auto paint supply store and ask them to match the color or let you take the blue samples out to the boat. Use aluminum etching primer and a good quality automotive urethane paint and do it right. You will need a freind with a compressor and good quality HVLP paint gun. The foo-foo can stuff will work but it will also wear off and not look real good after a while. JMO.

What was the actual color (part number) that you used to get the exact match? I have a 2007 Vmax and need some lower unit paint. thanks, Mark.
my 99 v max used the 5544 and the 1544 along with a primer...as I said I did it and 48 hrs later a slight rain fell, totally mesing it up, so I wet sanded it and re did it and it looks as if the lower unit never saw water
Great, thanks for the info![]()

Autozone sells duplicolor truck and van spray paint part number T-0298 or T-298. its a exact match to my 2007 HPDI 200. Wet sand with 320 sandpaper. clean with wax and grease remover, spray 3 light coats , 5 minutes between coats. It will look factory!
