Have any of you guys ever switched from a 12 Volt trolling motor to a 24 volt trolling motor? My question is, can you use the same wiring you currently have and just split it off by the battery to use it on 2 batteries? Also, this is a dumb question, but what would be the difference between say a 12 volt with 50 lbs of thrust and a 24 volt with 50 pounds of thrust?

No I have not. I do know howver that my buddy Bob recieved his new Z521 wired for 24 Volt. Bob wanted 36 Volt so it was added. A switch of somesort was installed whereby he can switch back to 24V if he needs to run his spare TM.
Theoretically there should be some sort of switch that should allow you the same flexibility from 12V to 24V
I would sure guess the difference between a 12v and 24v of the same # thrust would be battery lifeI'm pretty sure there's some fancy equation I learned in college to explain but I'd rather you just took my word for it
I think you right, I think it's the same amount of power, just longer life.....now the ticket is to find a used, resonably priced 24 volt. :) got all winter though. :)
my main concern with switching from 12v to 24 v is the diameter of the wire used.. in theory a 50# trolling motor weather 12v or 24v will have the same thrust, the difference would be the 24v will have twice the operational time over the 12v..

My concern would be the amperage (current) going through the wire for the two different voltages. If the wire is already heavy enough to handle the difference, then no problem.
