    props on 225E-Tec HO

Curious what props you guys are running on your 225HO's. I've got a 26 RakerII, but my RPM's are not where they should be (appx. 5300 max, pushing 72MPH GPS).

I want to send a prop out to get worked in the off season, but wasn't sure if I should start with the one I've got or a different one.

    Thanks.

Man I think your tach is off, to run 72 with a 26 you have to be turning 5800+ rpm.

I will second the opinion on the tach. reading, something not quite right there. I am running a 29 tempest, but I have the hull to let me do that.

In theory, you should be revving right around 6043 RPMs given the stated speed of 72 MPH. You may want to check the tach.

Let us kow what you find out.

Re: props on 225E-Tec HO (stan)

Appreciate the responses, I have heard a couple other folks mention bad tach readings on the E-Tecs. I just dropped it off at the dealer for warranty work, I'll have them check that also.

I hear what you guys are saying - I am just starting to understand some of the details of this world (prop pitch, slip, etc..) - but ever since getting the boat (late Aug) a little voice in the back of my head has been saying "man, that's smokin' for those RPM's". Sounds like that little voice may have been making a darn good point...

I'll let you know how it ends up.

PS. Anyone want to chime-on on what prop they are using on a 225HO? I'm looking for a little more speed... Maybe I should just send what I've got to Mark or Boger for a tweak?

The EMM will tell what you are acutally spinning for RPM's.

I have read that our 225ho's run best at 5,800 rpm's. It does sound like your tach could be off! I wanted to get mine checked out, let us know what you find out.

Re: props on 225E-Tec HO (Z19-225HO)

Well, to answer your question, most people with the 20 and 21 foot Rangers like yours are running 26 or 27 pitch props (Raker II, Tempest or Trophy's mostly).

I had an '05 Stratos 200 Pro XL and I ran a 28 Raker and a 29 ASX/TXP. I ran 77-79 depending on load. I did go over 80 w/ a 30 Raker but it was very slow out of the hole.

I have an '06 Blazer 202 on order with the 225 H.O. E-Tec and will be running either a 30 Raker or 30 TXP. This boat should be a low 80's boat loaded.

I hope that answered your question some more.

Oh, by the way, you're tach (or your gps) is off.

Re: props on 225E-Tec HO (dladue)

I'm running an ASX/TXP 29 at the moment, hitting about 5600 rpm at 78.9 GPS with a moderate load and about 25 gallons of gas with only 2hrs on the motor. She should loosen up after several hours.

Love the ETEC! Pretty good out of the hole, good throttle response throughout the range. Love the smooth shifter. It don't grind like the Merc, it just slips into gear silently.

WAG: In a Ranger 20ft w/225, I'd say try a 26 Raker II and get your engine height adjusted for best performance. You may get 74-75 GPS out of this but I don't know how your hull is running.

Dladue I am running the same setup as you with the exact boat and prop and am turning about 5100 to 5200 on the tach and GPS around 69. What warranty work are you having done. Think this spring may mess with motor height to see if that helps top end any.

Re: props on 225E-Tec HO (riverrunner)

Spoke with the dealer today, they are going to check the tach. That has to be part of the issue, there is no way I can come out of the hole as fast as I do AND run 70+MPH GPS at something under 5300RPM's. It just doesn't add up... I'll let you guys know how I make out.

I'm already running a RakerII 26. Thinking of sending a prop to Mark or Boger, since nobody jumped up-and-down about it being a bad prop on this boat I think I'll buy another to have worked... I really do like this prop, but was looking for a few more MPH's. I'd be happy at 75.

Warranty work was a lot of "little" things, but wanted to get them all straightened out. Everything from a small crack in a livewell to loose carpet to front storage lid loose/scraping the "railroad tracks". Also got RMA's for both the Garmin units, not sure I'm going to like the switch from Lowrance to Garmin based on my short experience - like how they function, but doesn't do you any good if you can't see through the moisture behind the screen... Nothing that will keep me from buying another Ranger, that's for sure.

Riverrunner - think you've got the same issues with the tach? I'm really questioning the accuracy of mine at this point in the game... Don't want to raise the motor any more, the H20 pressure is about as low as I want to see it.

Hey Stan & MigZ - how did you guys figure the RPM numbers above? There must be some "magic math" that I could use to come to the same conclusion, just looking to understand it better...

    Thanks.

This is pretty general but it will at least give you an idea.

Re: props on 225E-Tec HO (Backlash Ar)

I use rpm x pitch, divided by gear ratio, divided by 1056. This gives you theoretical speed same as Gambler site posted. Now you must figure slip which can be 7 to 14% on most boats, normally 10%. So multiply by .90 for actual speed. Then some props are not actually what they are marked pitch wise so that can change things too.

Re: props on 225E-Tec HO (jimh)

Hmmmph.... 5300 RPM's, 1.85:1 gear ratio and a 26 pitch prop - according to this calculator, I must be running across the surface of the moon (no gravity!)

Thanks for the links guys. What this DID tell me was I need to try (at least) a tweaked 27 pitch prop to have a chance at running 73-74MPH.

This will give you southern guys a laugh - was planning on going walleye fishing tonight in our "winter rat" boat (unseasonably warm up here) - but the DARN BOAT RAMPS ARE ALREADY FROZE-OVER!!! Man, I can't wait to head south...
