    Etec mileage

I repowered my 22 foot cc with a 200ho e tec. I love the motor but my old motor,1992 200 johnson carbed, got about 2 miles per gallon(using my speed/milage recorder on my lowrance x15) My new etec only gets about 3 mpg by the same method same wieght same speeds and rpms. Is this correct? I thought it would be better. First post but thanks for any help.

A 50% mileage increase is darn good in my book!

Is that full throttle? If so thats not to bad as at full throttle I don't think the new motors have a large edge in economy. Where you should notice it is at trolling and moderate cruising speeds. speeds

    Re: E-TEC Fuel Consumption

My current motor is similar to your old motor. I find that it runs most efficiently in the 3,500 to 4,000 RPM range. I would expect an E-TEC to be better, but at those speeds it will only be 30 to 40-percent better.

At lower speeds, from idle to 1,500, my older motor has terrible fuel consumption. The miles-per-gallon are actually worse at those speeds than at wide-open. However, at those throttle settings I would expect an E-TEC to be very significantly more fuel efficient. The fuel economy should better by a factor of 200 to 300 percent.

The overall improvement will be in proportion to how much time I spend at various engine speeds. If I troll or spend time in idle-speed zones, I will see a huge improvement. If I am running at cruise, the improvement will by more on the order of 30 to 40 percent. You should judge your results with the type of engine use that produced them.

Ask your dealer to hook up the laptop and run the motor for a bit. The idle temp on both cylinder banks should be close to 160° F. If not, then perhaps the t'stat seals are out of place or there is internal leakage inside the pressure relief valve. There is a service bulletin about this.

If the motor does not get up to full temp, the computer still thinks it's warming up and delivers more fuel to the injectors.

How accurate are your fuel consumption and speed results?

What prop are you running? THis makes or breaks the fuel burn.

    Re: Etec mileage (johnrude)

Thanks for the replies. I am currently running a 21" viper and most of the fuel checks were done with about 4200 rpms this is about 37mph. The boat will do 50 mph and 5700 at WOT. The fuel checks were a mixture of speeds but I usually logged about 50 miles per check. I dont know the amount of time at idle or below 1500rpms. I have tried different props( 19" viper,Renegade 4 blade, ) didnt check the fuel that much with those props just speed and rpms.
