    Good Start

Spent the weekend out west, last week's rain in Kansas and the cold up north has the migration in full swing for the early movers. Numbers of mallards picking up as well. Shot 5 man limits both days with some good decoying action. Sunday was the best-more mallards and they worked great. Sure beats hunting public...
    Saturday

    Sunday-12 mallards, 3 pintails, 2 redheads and 8 widgeon.

Good to be back in the game...late zone duck opener/2-day goose next weekend, roosters the following, and then the regular goose opener. See you in March.

    Nice job Tim.

Brett got back from Canada last weekend and he said he saw a 10's Only trailer on it either on the way back to KS or on their way up to Canada I cant remember.

I didnt think you liked to shoot ducks?

I have some buddies that went out there and limited both days too. They said they saw lots of ducks.

Michael I think Brett and them left when the the guys were coming back. They had an incredible trip again, even with the warm weather. I would imagine Brett hit it about perfect?

You know goose season isn't open, so I had to settle for ducks. Kind of starting to enjoy it and it scares me... Good thing there is morning and afternoon.

I take it early goose season not opened yet good thing I didn't shoot those geese sitting on a pond I drove by today. Guess that's why they were still there. Was wondering why no one had shot at them yet.

I hadn't thought about hunting ducks much till today Pheasant hunting, we jumped a bunch of mallards and I thought I should chase them some. Pheasant opener was good, I didn't hunt yesterday but today we killed 36 with 16 hunters. Almost all of the corn is still in the field so it is tough hunting.
It will be a while before the northern ducks get going your way. We have only had one frost this year.

    Re: Good Start (Champer196)

It will be really good here this year. Surveys indicated the most pheasants since the 1940's or something. The wet fall and late harvest will continue to cause problems with virtually no corn harvested yet, and more rain is expected this week. In my township, there has been maybe 20 acres of corn picked. The water in the sloughs has helped a bit as the birds will hold at the waters edge.

The news said this morning that the state average on Saturday was 2 birds/hunter. It was very windy on Saturday, so I'm sure that caused some problems for some that aren't used to leading the birds that much, or at least gave them an excuse.

Yeah it sounded like they did pretty well. No bands but a lot of birds. At least I have a few memories to hold me over for a few years.
