I need to change the gears in my 92 130 yamaha lower unit. I remove the pinion nut and reverse gear and shift shaft rod. How do I remove the pinion gear with the propeller shaft and front gear? The pinion gear will not fit past the clutch dog. What Do I have to do to remove the propellor shaft first?
If I remember correctly you will need to pull the drive shaft out the top the fish the pinion gear out. The shaft and foward gear assy should come out then. Have you priced the gears and bearings? When I did for my 2.0 LU on my 150 I decided it would be better to get a new LU but everything in mine except the propshaft was destroyed. Oh when you pull the driveshaft be careful the needle bearings will probably fall out into the housing.
I already pulled the driveshaft out when I removed the pinion nut. All that is in there is the propeller shaft with the pinion gear. I can' get the pinion gear out between the clutch dog. I think if that came out everything else would follow.
Put the shift shaft back in and shift the clutch dog forward into the fwd gear position. You should be able to remove the pinion then.
