    Fishing from the bank?

Looking for some advice on lakes or ponds to fish from the bank. I don't own a boat. Not looking for a place to catch a few big ones. Just looking for a place to take my 7 year old so he can catch some bass with daddy. I'm in the Kansas City area but don't mind making a little drive if I have to. Thanks for any info.

    Thanks Chad

Get a kansas fishing atlas (available at any fine wal mart) should show you some pretty nice places around your area

I forgot all about the fishing atlas. Its like the WALK IN hunting but only for fishing. I'll have to get one. Thanks.

I think youll have to drive a ways to get to any walk in fishing, the few places Ive been to around Manhattan that have walk in fishing were pretty crappy As far as the KC area, there are a bunch of lakes/pond in city limits that were rated fairly highly by KDWP. Check out there new "fishing forecast" gives half way accurate predictions for success rates at lots of different waters. Heres a list of fishing in Johnson County: http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us./n...ounty

There are all kinds of small lakes in the metro area. You can get a decent idea of how good a lake is off KDWP but its going to be up to you to explore them and separate the good from the bad

Thanks for the info guys. I looked at the FISH map and there isn't any thing close. Some of the small local ponds in Johnson County are really close. I made a list of about 12 that looked good from the list. It will be just like fishing a big lake, only running from one spot to the next will be in the truck not the boat. Will just have to start weeding out unproductive spots.

    Thanks Chad

Leavenworth State Fishing Lake is a pretty good place for the bank fisherman. They have built mulitple "Jetties" that sticj out into the lake so you can get away from the overhead trees whne casting and find some deept water.

    just my humble opinion
