    Fuel pump question...

Would a bad diaphram cause a 2003 250 OX66 to want to load up when first started and seem to be a little low on power out of the hole?.. A month or so back, it started wanting to load up and bog when I first back it off the trailer...It starts fine, but does not want to take throttle until I rev it up a couple times, then it seems better but still bogs a little... It also has been sluggish out of the hole and I have been trying to fix it with changing the PVS holes in the prop and with my set-up, but maybe the sluggish holeshot is from a leaking fuel pump issue?.. It never has the bogging issue after it is cleaned out the first time...All it takes to clean it out is to plow it hard or half-way pop up on plane and it is fine the rest of the day, except being slow out of the hole...

    Re: Fuel pump question... (201pro)

Can you pump the primer ball up firm with the motor turned off? If so then the mechanical fuel pumps are probably fine. What color is the primary fuel filter under the hood? (The one inside the plastic bowl...) If it's brown change it, it should be yellow if it's clean. Do you have a Racor filter installed? If not, do so ASAP. Sounds like a clogged fuel filter issue to me. There are three under the hood, but the most likely culprit is the primary's element being old or partially clogged.

I checked the primer bulb and it pumped up fine...
Primary filter is clean, but looks a little brown thru the housing and fuel...It is probably the original filter...4 years old...It was a used boat when I bought it, so I do not know if it was changed or not...I can pick one up and change it and see if that helps...

I do not have a Racor installed, but there is never any debris of any kind in the primary housing...

I replaced the primary filter and it seems to be better....No more bogging at idle and seems to have more power when getting on plane, even in the 90%+ humidity this weekend...Thanks Mike...

I've had the same symptoms twice before and a plug change fixed it. Do you run the BR9HS-10? Have you tried going to the BR8HS-10?

I run the 8's already and they are only a month or so old...It ran like a dream this past weekend...No bogging, no idle miss and smooth throttle response when planing...Only change was the fuel filter element..
