    UMF College edition

Have you guys seen the last couple of episodes of Ultimate Match Fishing? They have featured college teams head to head. This weekend some douchebag from Louisville started using the other guys fishing rod, stripped out all the line and then tossed it in the lake. Probably the worst example of sportsmanship I've ever seen. I was surprised Joe Thomas didn't DQ the guy. Anyway, I notice that they are flying the K State Wildcat logo on the show and wonder will we be seeing any of the K State guys in future episodes? http://ultimatematchfishing.com/

The guy was obviously a bully. The other guy was small of stature and quiet and I assume the Louisville guy thought he could intimidate the kid. I just thought it sucked. Everything I have ever fished has a sportsmanship rule and if that kid thinks that he can do that crap in any other setting I think some crusty old club anglers would have serious issue with it.

Next week, Kansas State Wildcat Josh Herrman squares off in a Big 12 Big 10 showdown with Iowa Hawkeye Tyler Larsen.

I have followed this show for quite some time. I love the format. For those of you that don't know, Luke Clausen pulled the same kind of stunt on the UMF last season when the were doing the BASS vs. FLW. Luke cut the line of his opponent when he was trying to land a fish. I can not recall for sure, but I think his opponent lost that fish because of it. It makes you wonder how much that influenced the Louisville anglers actions on this show. Hopefully Luke's actions didn't make that kid think that sort of thing was "part of the game". What is this world coming to!

You're right Matt, I hadn't correlated the two, but I would bet that did have an impact on his thought process. I think we all see enough drama and controversy in any other "reality" show we choose to turn on so I hate to see it on fishing shows. I HATE censorship and realize I can turn the channel anytime I like. Historically I have liked this show and the format, but probably wont continue watching if they continue to have poor sports on and allow it. JMO

Not only did Clausen cut the line with his teeth, the guy (I can't remember who it was) ended up falling in the lake trying to land the fish after Clausen's stunt

He should have been DQ Right Then and There.

In poker you can't touch the other guys card, in fishing you should be able to toucht he other guys rod or line.

would have been an azz whompin in progress even if i were smaller. a swift kick to the nads and he would be done, then reach in his wallet and tell him thanks for the new rod

The F^#ked up part was Clausen won that . They did not disqualify this guy for His actions. The Louisville guy was a total dork trying to act funny . Came off looking like a dick! Mui (sp) was a class act angler but, IMO He should have taken it to the dock after the 3 quarter.

Re: UMF College edition (Hydrilla Gorilla)

Yah this week's episode is me (K-State) vs. Iowa. Being part of the show and seeing how these things are made was pretty awesome! Both me and the Iowa guy I fished against got kind of a raw deal though.....everyone was suppose to get 2 full days of practice time on the lake. When we showed up they said they didn't have as many boats as they planned and so we didn't get the practice days that the other guys did. It kind of pissed me off because it made us look like we weren't near the fisherman the other guys were. They took us out the evening before our match for about 2 or 3 hours and that's all we got. Other than that it was a pretty awesome time though. Oh yah and as for that kid from Louisville......BIG Douchebag! I was unlucky enough to have a conversation with him. Most of the other guys were great guys, aside from a couple who thought they were already pro.

Have them come to the midwest and fish against; in my opinion; the most skilled group of fisherman in the nation. See if they still think they are a pro then

Welcome aboard Josh. Wish I would have known you were going up there. When I was stationed in NY my club fished there every year and I fished a year end championship there with a team trail I fished also. It's a great lake to fish if you get the practice time

    Re: UMF College edition (jkh785)

Yeah I am not too sure how much I like the UMF format. I don't like to see people take the fall for the benefit of ratings. I have talked to the guys from Louisville multiple times and they are good people. They talk a big game definitely but most fisherman do. I know one thing though he is definitely passionate about the sport.

Having fished in a couple of these collegiate tournaments (not UMF but others) I can say that all the producers and camera guys want you to go knucking futts. They want the big reactions and the exaggerated activity. The craziness is great for TV and gets the buzz they need. The problem comes in editing. The events are taken out of context and spun in a way that makes the angler out to look like an a$$. You have to decide if it is worth it to make an idiot of yourself for some camera time. Really shows you whose best interest are met in instances like these.

On an upnote these events are for the most part completely paid for by the producers of these TV events. This in turn creates a great springboard for the anglers that choose to go on in competitive angling. For these guys any exposure is good exposure
