    200 hpdi problems

I've got a 2006 3.3L 200 HPDI, fished a tourny today, blasted off, and ran about 8 miles perfect. Fished about an hour, cranked up took off, and could only turn 5000 rpms (6000 normally) for maybe a mile, then dropped to 4000, then 3000. Now my motor want idle, if I crank the motor and knock in gear real quick it'll run, but only up to about 3000 rpms, pull back in nuetral and it cuts off. Dealer is closed tomorrow, and I'd really like to know what you guy's might thank it is. Thanks, Jay

    Re: 200 hpdi problems (jayc)

I would pull the plugs & check cylinder pressures 1st. It only takes a few minutes to do, and you will know immediately if you have lost a cylinder. I actually check all mine on the same engine last week just to make sure everything was looking OK. They should be right at 120psi.

I was starting to get a little worried with some of the recent posts about powerhead failures, and decided to just check mine, & put a set of plugs in it. I hope your's turns out to be something simple. It could be a TPS (throttle position sensor), or lots of other things I'm sure. Good luck.

Sorry to say, but my vote is the powerhead....I have been there and can say it sucks.. Give Nathan at Hydrotech a yell, he'll get you fixed up..

I was heading out for a pre fish running full throttle, motor coughed, died then all I had was 2000 rpm in gear.
Took mine to Hydro Tec for a new head.

Same symptoms that I had... Power head. Pull the plugs, willing to bet that one of them will look demolished. Get it replaced and you'll be good to go. Make them through in some other stuff too, like your 100hr service, I did and it's valued at around $600+
