i would try cleaning it first. Soak it overnight in Seafoam and then run a cleaning mix of seafoam through your gas. I replaced my o2 with a o2 from a Silverado I think it was an 04 model. Basically a o2 is a o2. THe silverado had the same color leads is why I selected it. Take it up to Napa and see how close it matches, cut the harness off your old one and splice to the new and you are in business for about $40.
NAPA part # CPWU505-4000 $40.00
This is what I wrote down from a previous post. Cant remember who posted it, but I remember them saying you would have to cut the wire comeector off of the old one and splice to the new one.
*edit* Guess I should have read hitdawgs post![]()

They are not cheap to replace (a few hundred dollars if I recall correctly from yamaha) and agree with the previous posters to clean with Seafoam first. Use an old tooth brush or equivalent to accelerate the cleaning if heavy carbon is present.
Read this document for specific info on testing to make sure it's bad before replacing. With a volt meter and a lighter, you can test your o2 sensor.

The dogbone on mine was nearly plugged with carbon and could barely see the metal on the o2 sensor. Seafoam loosened and removed alot of carbon to like new condition on both parts. Fabulous stuff. Ringfree didn't do as well. From this experience, I switch from Ringfree to Seafoam as a fuel additive.
For real??
An automotive O2 sensor will work in Yamaha motors having only to swap over wire harness to new sensor??
almost seems to good to be true.
It is true sir. Took about 10 minutes to customize the silverado o2 sensor. Cut off your old harness, splice wires and heat shrink tubing on it and you are good to go. The leads on the silverado unit are the same color so it is a very simple task and works perfectly.
I suspect NGK makes the one that is on the Yamaha's although I never spoke to them to confirm this.
I called NGK-USA to order one directly some time ago before I knew mine was still good. The person I spoke with could not find the part number in their database or a cross-reference part number to find an equivalent. He suspected that NGK specially engineered it to meet Yamaha's specifications. I suspect this is why the part is so expensive.
Keep in mind that I might have spoke to someone that didn't know where to look.
So long as the generic o2 sensor meets the same requirements as the original, there shouldn't be a problem with it.
it would not cross over because of the connector and plus if you were selling it would you rather get 80 or 300 bucks ?![]()

I can't tell you exactly, I think what really matters is it has the same number of wires comming out of the O2 sensor as Yamaha's.... Sorry haven't had to replace one yet, can't tell you anymore.![]()
