    REV LIMIT.

    hey guys whats the rev limiter set at on 04 225 vmax ox66.my buddy bought one on a used boat .also wot is 5500 right i guess you have to prop the heck out of them to keep rpms down, or will it hurt to turn more. im sure everybody turns more than 5500?

    The rev limiter is right at 6150... I would prop it to 5800-5900.

    My gauge might be off cuz mine has reached 7k rpm running my old prop.

    If yours is running 7K then you tack is way off! I think I would have it checked.

    My tach must have been off also with my 225. I would spin the chit out of the 25m and it would not go over 5700. I would have alot of pedal left and it would be sputtering, which means rev limiter. I never figured that out. I put the 27m on it and I could spin that to 5700 also, but it was not sputtering at WOT.

    Have Yamaha's tachs been off in the past?

    It's the dip switchs in the back of the tach that are wrong I bet.... Tachs are known to be 100-200 off, But not that much. My digital yammie gauge is dead nuts.

    Exactly why I switched to a digital Aetna tach. They are guaranteed accurate to "1" rpm and never need calibration. More expensive than an analog but IMO well worth the money.
