    What The?

WTH is wrong with BPS? They never seem to want to carry the same thing everyone else does anymore.

OK.....got my 2008 catalog. Start thumbing through it and found a Daiwa reel I was not aware f.......they called it the TD-Pro.......the frame and everything looks EXACTLY like a Daiwa Exceler.....now there not carryign the Exceler.....why?.......becasue its a Sub $100 reel that will compete too much with there own BPS line up.....just like the Advantage did for that matter ........so instead of just not carrying it.....looks as if BPS had to go out of there way top make Daiwa have there own "Version" of a reel so they can sell it for $119.99 so they can "Puch" there own line anymore

Salesman" Well if you like the TD-Pro but dotn want to spend $120 for it we have these BPS reels right here top fit your budget"

NOw dont get me wrong here either......there is still some stuff at BPS that is GREAT! Like there Johnnny morris stuff and there Rick Clunn addition stuff........but does anyone else think this is a Classic ploy to get Customers who are not very familiar with fishing Equipement to buy something that will make more Gross Profit on there part than worrying about Customer Loyalties?

BTW....I Used to Own/Use BPS stuff all the time when it was actually being made by Lews/Browning company.....but since BPS bough them out it seem that "Quantity" has overgone Quality on some of there lower end line up

thats just the way the big box stores do things if they can sell their brand they make more $$ thats just the way the buisness works.......what is really funny in my opinion when a guy works a show there they are not allowed to talk and promote any brands that BPS does not carry......now thats BS in my opinion really....as far as i am concerned the shows and so on are supposed to be there to help new people LEARN about fishing.....but they use that to their advantage

    Re: What The? (Luke)

I think that alot of it boils down to the required selling prices of the big brands. Daiwa is selling a reel to you at A price and requires you to sell it at B price. With no flexibility and HIGH overhead you have to figure out something. In BPS particular situation it makes better sense to have a special run of reels developed. I don't blame them for pushing their own brand. As a factory direct product their margins are undoubtedly HIGH.

It is all about business in the end though. If you have a brand you want then get it. They are all the same price for the most part anywhere you go.

    Re: What The? (Hydrilla Gorilla)

That is the best idea yet!!!

Actually though I am a fan of Daiwa spinning reels. They blow Shimano out of the water in my opinion. I haven't tried Shimano's new reels though so I am not the best qualified to pass judgement on them but I can say I have never been disappointed with a Shimano bait caster. I have been very disappointed by the quantum and BPS products I have purchased though.

why pay 2 times as much for a Shimano when you can get a Daiwa

Ryan, this way they can turn alot more profit. Their own line of products has a larger markup than does others even if it's the same thing. Buy parts from a dealer for your car and see the mark up, or go to auto zone and get it cheaper, same thing
