Check your owner's manual to see if it has the garden hose adapter. It should be on the left side of the engine (looking at the engine from the back), towards the front, below the cowling. There should be a small line going to it. Unscrew the fitting and connect the hose to it. A note of caution: The owner's manual says to NOT have the engine running while connecting the garden hose.
The manual is a bit confusing, and I've never done this myself. Hopefully someone who knows more will reply soon.

I have run mine on the hose using the flushing attachment... Never even heated up, And I have a temp gauge. I only will run it to 1500 rpms on the hose.

Check out the 6th post down from top...explained in more detail.
For flushing on the trailer, I use the hose connector on the motor for about 5-10 minutes after I get home. If I am going to run the motor, I use muffs. I rarely ever run it on the trailer, usually after maintenance only. I don't run it during flushing.
Make sure you have decent water pressure. I bigger motors need it to fill the entire cooling system up.
