    Octane ????

I just got my first Yammie '07 250 HPDI. The owners manual says any octane 86 or above, no methanol. I have always run premium in my Evinrude it just run better, what is your opinion and what should I use. I don't want to spend more on fuel than I have to, but I won't cut cost at the expense of the engine.

I think that's how I burned a piston a few months back......at least that's what I was told. I would run 93 and the mechanic said that was a no-no. Nothing but 87 from now on.

87 Maybe a little 93 in the spring to top off some winterized fuel only.

With seafoam, The gas is already stabilized.... No need for 93.

87,you will have O2 sensor clogging problems if you run 93. The 93 burns much cooler and makes carbon deposits.

    Re: Octane ???? (kensafishin)

The biggest failure in these motors is due to detonation. But sense you cant' hear the pinging running WOT you wont' know. I would run midgrade 89 just to be safe. and always run seafoam.

    Re: Octane ???? (nosaj2)

I will mix mine every other fill up. And it just seems to run and idle better with the higher grade. But who says the 87 is 87 they wouldnt cheat on you would they????

    Re: Octane ???? (PushNit)

Run 87 or 89........don't run premium in an outboard that doesn't call for it.
Premium burns much slower and can cause big problems in a motor that doesn't require it. Some will think it's better for the motor.......definitely not!
