    Battery isolator for 150 HPDI

    Hi,

I currently have 3 batteries that I would like to charge through the alternator. I am considering purchasing a battery isolator for 3 batt w/1 alt. My question is, they come in different amps. What amps should my isolotor be for an HPDI 150? Does anyone have this type of setup? To throw a kink into things, I have a a/b/ switch connected.

    Thanks.

The output amps should be listed in your manual.

The 2.6L HPDI's all had 45 amp alternators, the 3.3's had 50's. Is yours a VMax? If so there's already a built-in isolator that you can use to charge your TM batteries. Pop the hood and look for the red 10 awg wire with seal plug in the end right there under the fuse block. With the motor running you can take a voltmeter reading off it to make sure but you should get 13-14 volts off it. You can run that wire to wherever your TM batteries are and through proper battery switch charge your TM batteries on the run.
Or buy a DualPro Xtreme series charger and it'll charge on the run as well as on AC.
Or however you envision using your isolator.

Re: Battery isolator for 150 HPDI (Hamfisted)

Thanks for the reply, exactly what I was looking for. Not the VMAX, but I do have 3 batteries all inter-connected. I need to re-wire and was told isolator is needed to charge 3 batteries, so I guess a 120amp isolator would suffice.

    Thanks again

I'd like to know more about this Hamfisted. I have a V-Max and found the red wire you are talking about. I'd like to charge on the run. What kind of battery switch do I need and can I still use the onboard charger? Thanks
