    THERE SHE BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well after reading all the problems with the 05 yammies, and talking to everyone about mine and how it hasn't given me any problems and always knocking on wood when I said it...she took a nose dive last weekend..I dropped 3 cylinders, the entire left bank blew..only running about 40 when it happened...took it to the marine place in Watumpka, Ala and sure enough 10psi..10 psi..and 0 psi...HMMMM....but the good news...STILL UNDER THE 2 YR WARRANTY..so I am having the Racor installed also since I have to start over with the breakin...have to drop it off on the 4th of Dec..hopefully I get it back in a week so I can take the boat back home when I leave Ala on the 20th....

    I feel your pain

My '05 HPDI 250 went about 2 weeks back, #2 cylinder. Dealer has it back together, but Yamaha wants the dealer to do break-in and send them a dump from the ECU afterwards. Nobody at the dealer would take it out yesterday, 35 degrees and 35mph winds. Looks like I won't see it until next week. Yamaha is also picking up the tab on a 10 micron external filter, but my dealer had to ask for it (I would have had it done anyway). No official word on why it went, dealer was speculating oil system not bled properly on install, but he said they usually go within 20 hours, I had well over 50. This was before they tore it down. I've got warranty through 2010. I'm impressed with the way Yamaha stands behind it. Considering how many big outboards from every brand go bad, I think I'll still stick with Yamaha in the future.

Oh, and I use ring free. Probably a few tanks here and there where I didn't, but most tanks got slightly over the recommended amount.

Sorry to hear about your problem with your motor, really I am. Just image 3 blown heads in 14 months, well that's what I went through with my 250 HPDI and YES I used Ring Free with every gallon of gas that went into the rig and had the Filter that everyone says is a must.
Yes Yamaha will short block the engine with no problem, not what I wanted. I wanted a compete dress power head after the 2nd blown head, which they will NOT do.
Again sorry to hear this, hope everything goes smooth for you and that you have no more problems. Good Luck - Glenn

Re: I feel your pain (55excl)

Looks like I'll probably never hear the final word. Dealer only tore it down far enough to see that it was #2 cyl, then it's boxed up and off to Yamaha. Dealer said they usually never hear back. Got it back, and Yamaha covered the full tab, even new water pump they required with new powerhead. Will be out on the water Saturday to see how she runs...dealer put the first couple of hours on it on the lake tuesday.
