Is this anything to worry about?

Went fishin today, noticed my water pressure would peg the gauge at WOT. Over 30 lbs. 20 lbs at idle.
Used to idle at 5 lbs and was 22 or so at WOT.
    What happened?

I noticed mine has been increasing as the water temps drop. I don't know if the pressure is really higher, or if the temp. is affecting the accuracy of the gauge? Is the water temp. considerably cooler than the last time you were out? I'm real curious to see if anyone else sees theirs change when it cools off. I have never noticed this happen on any of the other boats I had before.

Yeah the water temp was 48-52. Last week when I was out it was 58-60.

For the water pressure to jump that much, the poppit valve is hanging closed and not allowing the cooling water to exit the block properly. Pull the poppit off, clean it, and stick her back together. You'll be good to go and it's just a few minutes of work.

Will do, thanks for that info, I had no idea what was causing it to do that. I just removed that thing a while back and it was clean. I guess it doesnt take long to get dirty then?

When I had my 2.6 yamaha, I can't tell you how many times I had that dam poppit valve out of it...

The worst time it got me, I was on Lake Kissimmee, about 15 miles from the ramp. As I was pulling off the beach, 1 (yes ONE) single grain of sand got stuck in the poppit and held it open. I could only get 3psi at idle and 7psi at 4000...I had to limp it back at 2500 and 4psi all the way to the ramp...It was awful. 10 minutes after I got home, she was fixed and ready to go again...

What is your water pressure with at 0 RPM. Sounds like your water pressure gauge froze. I unhook mine in the winter.

If it gets cold enough to freeze your gage sometimes it will bend the needle to read 15 psi. when the pressure should be at 0. That would make to read 30+ at WOT. The ice will expand in the line and force the gauge past the max pressure, breaking the gauge. Sounds like you have a different problem. I would clean the poppit valve. The spring on the poppit valve should let the valve open at 25 psi. Your pressure shouldn't go past 25 psi.

My gauge froze last year , and bent the needle to 15 psi ... and would max out while running the lake ,, it'll freeze,, and still werk as well ...

I also added this brass T to my water pressure gauge line as well .... about $3.00 total cost ....

Guess it did, noticed today it was stuck on 15 lbs. I took it out, now I need to find one.
