    RPM Range for 225 OX66

    Guys,

I have a 2003 Yamaha EFI 225HP (OX66) and I have a couple of questions on the RPM range and set up, here is the deal once I get the engine started it runs at about 10K RMP’s, then once is worm (or after running for a while) it drops down to about 6K in neutral and 5K once in gear. What should the RPM be once the engine is warm?

I have a Hot-Foot on the boat and I would like to know if I adjust the RPM on the Hot-Foot or somewhere under the cowling? If is somewhere under the cowling any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance....

Have your tach replaced or the dip switche's adjusted on the back of it... Your rev limiter is 6150. Prop it 5800-5900.

    Re: RPM Range for 225 OX66 (21XDC)

    21XDC,

Maybe I didn't make myself clean , the RPM's that I am talking about is when the motor is in "idle", when I first start in the morning or afternoon in "idle" it goes to about 10K once it warms up it goes to 6K (in neutral gear) once I put it in gear (with the hot-foot all the way back by the spring) it goes even lower at about 5K...

I would like to know what should the RPM's be in neutral (idle condition)..

    Thanks...

    Re: RPM Range for 225 OX66 (C-Man)

C-Man if you remove the cowling and look on the drivers side of the engine there is a throttle linkage. There is a screw on this linkage, just screw it in until it is steady at 600 rpms in gear. This usually takes two people, one steering the boat and watching the tach and the other doing the adjustment. Extremely low idle rpms can activate your temp alarm as it is not moving enough water thru the P/H even with a new water pump. HTH later Jim

.... It's supposed to be 700-760 rpm's at idle in neutral.

I think when he says 10K, he really means 1,000 RPM's (and not 10,000).

So yes, the fast idle should be around 1,000 and drop back to around 700.

Make sure not to shift untill it's in the 700 range.

I agree with the comments made by Buzz and 21XDC.

Hey Jerry, what is your max WOT rpm with your setup? I am running the stock yamaha 27 and my rpms max at 5500+. I run between 72 and 73 gps depending on load/weight, etc.. Also, what height are you at? Thanks for the info,

    Chris

Re: RPM Range for 225 OX66 (Chris in MI)

Max depends on the season. Summer heat really brings my max down a bunch, maybe 5700 and 73 when I'm alone, slightly less with a partner. Cooler weather gets my R's up to around 5900 and 75. If I'm alone, then slightly over 6,000 and close to 77. All speeds are GPS.

I'm currently running a 27 T-1 blueprinted on an 8 inch detwiler jackplate about 2 & 5/8 inches below the pad. Every once in a while I get the urge to send Mark this prop for some added pitch, but I realize I'm probably close to the max this 225 can handle. Besides, I just don't drive WOT that often.
