    Hillsdale Report

Fished a club Tourney at Hillsdale yesterday. It was overcast and a bit chilly and a cold rain started at about 1pm. There were a lot of fish caught, but Hillsdale has an 18" length limit and therefore only one "legal" fish was caught from the whole club. Fortunately our club awards points for other fish caught and put on paper. I would have had a decent bag on any other lake. I had two 15" fish, one 16.5" and one 17.5" and a bunch that were between 12" & 14". I've struggled in club tourneys since moving back here from FL last fall and it was a good confidence boost to put a few decent fish in the boat. I never fell out of the boat while hobbling around on one foot, but came danger close on several occasions.

I switched the seat, then switched it back. I'm too damn stubborn I guess. I am in moderate pain today. Nothing a 6 pack and a fist full of vicodin won't cure.

Good deal Bob. I used to like to fish Hillsdale, esp. for club tournaments on paper where the length limit doesn't matter.

    Bob

What did you catch them on? I threw a crankbait and spinnerbait all day and only had two fish.

Steve I caught the smaller fish on a white chatterbait and the biggest on a green pumpkin lizzard. The ones in the middle came on a 7" powerworm in watermellon candy. Bill's keeper was on a buzzbait at 1000 as you recall that was about the time I had one blow up and tried to have him come back on a Spook. Dennis had a 17 1/2 at the end on a Senko.

    Bob,
What do you figure your stringer would have been if it were a 15" lake and what was your estimate of biggest stringer for the club?

Probably would have been a few 12-14 pound stringers. The top 5 all had a limit of 15-17 inch fish on their cards. I guess mine would have went 12 1/2 or so

Not too shabby. Our club should consider going there again for a paper tourney. 12+ lbs is at least enough to keep you interested. Of course, it's the primo time of year, too.

Sounds like i should have given up on the crankbaits and went to soft plastics. Thanks i'll file that away for future reference :-)

Not trying to imply anything but at the Wednesday nite tournament it took over 16 lbs. to win and 13 lbs to get a check. Over 20 18" fish were weighed in. You should have called me- I live on the northside of the lake and can see it from my back door in the winter months!
