Plug top lower unit H2O intake holes?

I know it's a trick to be able to raise the motor another 1/2" or so done by the merc guys.Is it possible to do the same on a Vmax OX66 LU and still get enough water pressure/volume? Thanks

I've never heard of anyone doing this to a hammer.
