Got out today for the first time this year. Took my grand dad with me down to the Green River here in KY. Had 5 this size nothing major, but it felt great to get out on the water. This was the first fish of the new year.

Thanks. It's not uncommon to have 15 to 17 lbs anymore. We had around 14 lbs today, but back in November, I was turning out 18 to 20lb stringers almost everytime I went out. Took my cousin in November and he couldn't believe the river was putting up fish like that.![]()
Nice! Was that in the river or the lake?
Nevermind, I figured it outWhat stretch of the river is it on?
Make all the memories ya can...wish I could have the chance to make some more with my papaw![]()

Put in above Lock and Dam #3 at Rochester. This stretch of river is really bouncing back. It's been tough for the last 5 years or so, but this past year it was an absolute beast. Our club had a tournament on it in October that produced our best weights of the year. And we fished Malone twice, Barren twice and Barkley.
You ever catch any smallmouth down that way? I live near the upper end of the river. We have fished down as far as Houchen's ferry I believe. I know we put in below I think it's the last lock/dam up stream. Fishing up where I live can be really good to but it's jon boat stream fishing.

I've only caught one in my life on Green River. Once you get below Lock #6, the river changes A LOT. It's more like fishing the Ohio or other big rivers down this way. I have caught them up Barren River where it flows into Green above Woodbury lock and dam.
Houchen's is just above Lock and Dam #6, that's the last one on the system. I've fished from Houchen's down to the Pond River confluence in McClean County. The musky fishing below lock #6 can be amazing. I've caught some monsters in that section and it isn't like stream fishing at all. The bass fishing is pretty good too.
I caught these the first saturday in November down here around Rochester. Caught fish like these all day.
