    For the Deer Hunters

Has anyone in Indiana been seeing any deer to speak of over the last 7 days or so?? Last Saturday morning I saw 5 different bucks chasing the same two slickheads... Since then I have not seen a single deer and a family member that hunts the same farm, who only works weekends, has not seen a single deer on a morning hunt.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced the same results?

Re: For the Deer Hunters (WIR3D 2 FISH)

I've been seeing deer on just about every outing. I've been set up in 2 big bucks' bedroom the past few times and had the biggest (170 class 12-point) in bow range once but it was too dark for a good shot. I've had other encounters with the other (150 class 8-pointer) but they have mostly been right at dark before getting out of the stand seeing him walk through the brush. It's only a matter of time when they both show up in the daylight. No wonder they've been able to get so big. I'm inching closer and closer to closing the deal but won't be able to hunt them again until Sunday night It's killing me!

To answer your question. I've seen tons of deer on other outings and have heard of many other guys seeing the younger bucks chasing. This weekend should be dynamite if you can be out there. These next 2 weeks will be primetime for a bowhunter. I haven't been able to hunt much at the area I usually see the most deer since I've been trying to score on the big bucks. This spot is generally a highly traveled funnel where I tend to see the first signs of rutting action. I have a vacation day next week reserved for that one.

Do you have any acorns available? Seems this year only a few trees have nuts and I've been able to find a few and the deer are there. Do you have a lot of standing corn in your areas? Maybe that's why you aren't seeing much. Good luck! it's only going to get better.

Im hunting in Parke County and all the corn came out on Monday.... I thought that maybe that was why my numbers were lower for the early part of bow season. I have not found any oaks that have produced acorns this year but I have not been able to walk the entire farm.. I hate to walk it this late in the game. I did most of my pre season scouting with trail cams this year bc I switched jobs and my time free time has been limited.. There is approx 300 acres of timber so without "scenting" up the entire area... finding the acorn trees that produced will be tough.

I anticipate that things should be really rocking this weekend and the next couple of weeks! I hope that the warm up was the cause of slow deer movement for me!

Lawrenceburg doesn't count. Everybody knows you have too many deer up there.

I have hunted S. In and Muscatatuck up by Seymour and have only seen does including Sat and yesterday. My buddy did see an 8 ptr yesterday, but I haven't seen anything chasing yet. Next weekend, hopefully.

Re: For the Deer Hunters (201 Pro)

Well.... this past weekend was like someone flipped the light switch on for me! I saw 8 different bucks between 3 hunts. Saw a 150 - 155" 10 pointer that really has me tore up! Cant wait to get back out and after them this weekend!

It's definitely that time! I'll be spending Friday off work in the stand for sure. Good luck on that 10 pointer. Were they all chasing does or just traveling? Seems like most of the ones I see this time of year are cruisin' for a hot doe with little luck.

"If" I was to choose just 6 days a year to hunt that would be Nov. 5 - 10, handsdown, year after year. A buddy that scores deer for B&C said the date in the B&C book with most entries is Nov. 7th.

Re: For the Deer Hunters (BassnBuck)

All the bucks that I saw this weekend were running slickheads as hard as they could go... I was at full draw on the 10 pointer and had him less than 15 yards but could not get him to stop. I grunted, whistled, and even say "hey". There was 3 bucks after the same doe. The doe came back after about 45 minutes and she had two different bucks behind her then. So 5 different bucks after the same doe. Out of all the bucks I saw, only one was by himself. His nose was on the ground and he was traveling a saddle and "looking for love."

And to the point of the first part of Nov. being the best... I 100% totally agree! If I had some vacation time this year then I would def. be in the tree. I believe over the course of the next 10 days things will only improve and the only thing that could put a damper on my efforts is not having a North wind of some sorts. Anything southerly and Im dead in the water.

Halloween weekend has always been my favorite. I seen a lot of rut activity last weekend, including 2 different bucks chasing 2 different does. 1 was a REALLY NICE 8 pt, just couldn't close the deal. Also called in 2 other nice bucks, but they hung up at about 50 yards. Hopefully this weekend I can close the deal.

Re: For the Deer Hunters (Z20basser)

Halloween is a must on the hunting schedule! I killed my biggest to date bow kill on the weekend of halloween. Most everywhere that is considered a magical time!

I have trail cam pics and have seen a 8 pointer that I would love to kill also! Prolly a legit 140" clean 8. Hopefully with this cold front coming through tomm and the rain the bucks will be out over the weekend looking to freshin up their scrapes and check on the ladies! I will be there waiting with my Bowtech ready to make some string music!
