I'm headed to Patoka this weekend. It will be my first trip of the year. Anyone got any pointers for catching them little green fish there? What's the water like? Up and muddy I'm guessing.

Heading there myself this Saturday to get on the water for the first time of the year... I would guess the water will be in the high 40's close to 50 and fairly muddy. Any info would be appreciated!

I went two weekends ago. Warmest water i found was 42 up near painters creek. Didnt catch a thing but only got to fish about 2 hours. water was about 12 ft below summer pool then. hopefully with the water level and the hopefully warmer water the fish will start moving into shallower water. everything i got on the depth finder was in 14ft plus. mostly staged at 20 ft off main lake points.

Say what???
It normally only fluctuates about 4-5 feet between winter/summer pool. I find it hard to believe it was 12' below summer pool.

Patoka is at 537.4 right now.
Summer pool is 536
Winter pool is 532
Creeks are muddy and the lake is still rising slowly after all the rain we've had.
My guess is the surface temperature may be low to mid 40's at best. Not far below that the water is still cold as heck. It hasn't been that warm and this morning it was 32 degrees here, yesterday was cold as well.
Good luck![]()
I think the last time Patoka was 12 feet below summer pool was when it was being built back in the 70's. It was right at winter pool (532) about 4 weeks ago when the ice came off. It has come up a little over 5 feet with the rain recently. Last weekend the creeks were stained and 44 degrees.

hopefully the weather forecast is correct mid 50's and sunny all next week. Lets just hope it doesnt drop to 30's next Sunday...
i just rattled a number off my head but i almost always launch at little patoka and you couldnt even moor at the dock unless you tied on at the very end of it. plus an island i havent seen in years was exposed out on the main body and it was 4 feet above the water line. this was before we got any of this rain...im thinking the weekend of feb 12th. so maybe not twelve but if it wasnt at least 8 or 10 i would be amazed.
