Read the owners manual because you do have to break it in properly. Don't know the total time until break in is complete but be patient. If it was a demo and out on the water then it may already be broken in completely before they took it out with people. Been behind an HPDI before in Florida and its a sweet engine. You got a good one. The dependability on the motor I've been told is the best. That's coming from a mechanic and a person who sells Rangers but he was sponsored by Yamaha. Oh well they are the best.

My '00 Merc crapped out 3 times in 2 years. I switched to a 225 vmax 3.1L and it was like night and day. Smooth and clean starts even in 20 degree weather. I am putting a 300 hpdi on right now and I can't wait. Just follow the break-in procedure because that determines the life of the motor. Good luck man, you won't be sorry, trust me!.................YAMAHA 4 LIFE!

Luke, have your dealer hook the motor up to the puter and see how many hours are on it and at what RPM's it was ran. On these motors you do not have to double oil yourself, the motor does it for you, also prop it to run 5800-6000 with full load, these motors like to run high rpms, of course it will not get as good MPG but if you just cruise at 5k it will get pretty good.
