Should I go for it?

Well, the last year and a half battle is possibly reaching an end. They made an offer...

Yamaha has offered to take my OX66 225 Vmax in on exchange for an F225 4-Stroke. They will pay shipping, rigging, and testing. They will pay for the required [manual] Jackplate to accomidate the 25" shaft, and will also include the SS Prop. The 2006 motor would ofcourse include the 3 year warranty.

I would have to pay a $3,500 difference .

Any opinions?

Why are you not insisting on the HPDI? I feel they are wanting to dump the undesirable 4 stroke on you because they have a lot of them in inventory. I don't know of course but you shouldn't have to "settle" on anything. Why should you pay anything? Thay should pay you to take the 4 stroke! Just my .02 but damn that ticks me off!!

The four stroke is a sweet motor, but that is your call.I think it would look strange having the motor high enuff to acommodate the 25" shaft.Tell them only the 20" is acceptable.You should not have to pay a cent if they are backing their product. A man has to decide if being tweaked most of the time is worth it,or being out on the water relaxing, catching fish is better. Food for thought and good luck.

I would not put a 4 stroke on your boat, and definatly not a 25 in shaft motor. Getting the motor jacked up where it needs to be will look stupid on your boat. Not to mention all that extra weight. I would push for another 2 stroke. But thats just me.

The two stroke is a great motor and so is the four stroke!!!!

I can get the same deal or the HPDI.

We talked some more today and we are going to delay the whole thing till our lakes open up here, then Yamaha is going to arrange test rides with the HPDI and the F225 so I can finalize my decision.

Let me clarify, I am not asking for any handouts and told them upfront that I would be willing to pay the wholesale difference for a better motor, (which is why I think the HPDI should be had for less than the F225).

All aside, I must give them two thumbs up at this point for their hard work to make me happy. and to be truthfull, I think I will eventually be a Yami fan once I get an engine that performs well in all aspects.

Rico,

The I reported to the dealer that this motor had excessive smoke and excessive vibration issues from day one. I also reported they were intermittant. Without too much elaboration, my concerns were eventually confirmed by the technician and eventually Yamaha agreed to replace my motor (for a cost). If youy searched past threads you would see this drama has gone on since August of 2004.

I'm looking forward to ending this and also look forward to having a full season with a great boat and motor!
