    UK bass team needs help

Hey guys, the University of Kentucky bass fishing team will be having our first club qualifier this weekend 9/19 at Green River and are short a few boats. What we are looking for is 2 volunteer boat drivers who can drive team members around so that they can fish. If anyone is interested in helping out they will be compensated for gas. We will also need two volunteers for our following two qualifiers at Cumberland on 9/26 and Barren on 10/3. Sorry for the late notice but any help would be appreciated. If you think you can help out shoot me an email at jordan.elmore@uky.edu

    Thanks

Kind of hard to find out who is the most consistant angler unless you fish more than once, don't you think?

We usually have 5-6 a year to determine who goes to the national tournaments but we rarely have fall qualifiers which is something we need to start doing.. We usually start in Feb. and have one for 6 months straight.. We tried to tournament circuit this year for our opens and we just didn't get the turnouts that we needed.. We are going to make some changes this year and hopefully have something going well in a couple of years...

Dave do you all select your national competitors on past success or is it solely based on the qualifier prior to the event?

I agree with Dave we usually have 4 points tournaments a semester with a total of 8. This year is a little different since we added team tournaments to our schedule to get more involvements from our non boater members. But, the more tournaments for points the better, gives everyone a chance at each seasonal pattern in which some guys are better than others and actually will show the most consistent anglers.

I agree that more events are better, but they are fishing 3 weekends in a row. You gotta have balance. Too many qualifiers can mean that you don't have time or money to go the bigger events. I know that i cannot afford to spend the time or money to travel and fish every weekend in and out. School and jobs get in the way.

Well, this is my first real season with the team since I came on board basically at the end of last season.

We have a new constitution and this is addressed there...basically we have a minimum of 3 qualifiers each season now. Right now we only have 3 scheduled and that is this fall...we may do more in the spring...that remains to be seen in that the national circuits start then and so we may not have anymore...that will be up to the team as we have it set up that the team runs the show with me and my assistants as advisors.

The way we are set up is that points are earned for each qualifier and then the teams that are selected to fish the divisional or other intercollogiante tournaments will be based on highest points of the individuals. No one individual will get to fish more than one intercollegiante tournament unless they qualify to move to a higher level such as a regional after having qualified through a divisional tournament until all members have a chance to fish. If a team member is unable to fish a tournament due to outside commitmits etc when it is his/her turn, then the next higher points holder goes and so on. This is recycled for every tournament so that the highest points holder that has not yet fished a tournament gets first crack. I am not into having one team or two teams getting to fish all the available intercollegiante tournaments...I want everyone to have a shot as much as possilble. Funding is also being prioritized by the tournament committee with certain trails and tournaments prioritized for funding...you and I both know that funding is the biggest problem with the teams. The way it is set up, no one person is making the decisions on how and when monies are going to be spent, this will be planned out and the monies available will be spent thru prioritization and not on whims.

Re: UK bass team needs help (Dave Stewart)

I am looking foward to Sunday. I will be there strickly as an observer providing a boat for somebody to fish out of. When I talked to Jordan he was unsure as to how many anglers I would take out. I may have one or possibly two UK members.

Saturday I plan on taking all my fishing gear out of the boat. I need to change some line, service a couple of reels and sort through my tackle. I will just leave everything out of the boat that way it will open up room for whatever the team member brings. Plus I figure if I am not going to fish I might as well not carry around the extra weight in the boat.

Feel free to use my boat as if it was yours. I hope you do not need my mearusing board and I hope we get to use the cull tags, balance beam and weigh in bag. Green has earned the reputation as being a tough lake to catch fish. However in the last 2-3 years it has been fishing better and numbers are more like it was in the late 80s or early 90s. Hopefully everbody will bring something to the scales.

Re: UK bass team needs help (S.Curtsinger)

I talked to Jordan this morning and one of the boats he had for an observer had to back out due to a death in the family. I have been making some calls trying to find UK another boat but I have had no luck.

I am sure they would greatly appericate it if somebody could step up and help the team. The tournament is Sunday 9-19 out of the Lone Valley ramp at Green River Lake. I will be keeping a close eye on the boards to see if we have a response. I know this is last minute but a situation has arose that is beyond thier control.
