Hunting land in Loiuisville/SO Indiana area? Need a duck hole or farm pond

After this past season, I've come to the conclusion that it's pointless to drive 3.5 hrs to western Ky/Ballard Co/KY Lake/Barkley Lake and shoot no ducks, when I could just as easily hunt a farm pond 30 minutes away and shoot no ducks for a whole lot less in gas money.

If anyone has or knows of someone with a farm pond in the Louisville area outside of city limits that would be willing to offer access to it for a few dollars, let me know! Doesn't have to be the ultimate hunting spot, just something that a duck MIGHT fly over.

Also in the market for a good duck rig. Looking for an 18 ft or larger with a wide bottom and preferably a center console. I sold my rig a few months ago and looking for an upgrade now.

A few of my uncles and in-laws always hunt waterfowl on the White River in southern Indiana. They seem to do pretty well although it is hit or miss I guess like many other places. The stretch between Seymour and Sparksville is probably your best bet since most of this stretch is bordered by agricultural fields. Brownstown is pretty close to right in the middle. Seymour and Brownstown are right at an hour from downtown Louisville. Beautiful part of the state too. There are a lot of oxbows but many of those are obviously located on private property. I know of at least 2 public access sites.

I dont know what it takes to make a decent duck hunting spot or even when duck season is, but tar creek is my property boundary on about 2/3 of my 150 acre farm. I hear and see ducks flying in on it during deer season.

Have you hunted down in yellowbank creek wma ,,its never crowded and we usually do pretty dang good out there, and if the main flooded timber and duck blinds do have ppl we take the lil tracker boat and head up the creek out towards the river ,theres a nice grainery acroos the river ,so usually a pretty good flyover

Haven't hunted out of a boat on the river yet - sold my rig this summer to try and get something a little bigger and more stable. What I had wasn't really set up to put a blind on.

Really looking for a good creek or farm pond to shore hunt - got a 10 ft jon for retrieval. Got a 4-wheeler too to get to and fro if necessary.

I've just spent the last 7 years making the trip to west ky to do any hunting - need to find some local grounds and not burn so much fuel. For what I spend on gas I could easily lease something nice.

Heck, if anyone had a cornfield I'd hunt that, whether it was for geese or the upcoming dove season.

Tar Creek is in cloverport, it comes out of cloverport creek on the river. I will have corn for you next year. I know nothing about duck hunting scott, just know I see them flying along the creek sometimes.

Im always up for learning. When is duck season? I dont like interfering with deer season.

We've got an early season in mid-September - 15th - 19th for wood duck and teal, will be fishing that weekend.

Usually the regular season comes in Thanksgiving Day through Sunday, then opens back up again in early December and runs all the way through January. Plenty of time to get on those dudes after you get your deer.

Give me a shout if you want to come down to Barren County - we do ok down this way too. Although since my primary farm traded hands and the new guy drained all the ponds, I don't have it as easy as I used to. Instead of 130 birds a year its more like 75 or 80 now. But thats just me, not those with me. So I guess that's not a terrible year.

If you're shooting that many by yourself, then I need to get down there ASAP!

That's pretty good numbers for one man and a 60 day season, and I'm assuming you don't hunt daily.

I agree. I hunted A LOT last season, but hunted a lot of the same areas repeatedly with little success; see Einstein's definition of insanity. Plus, I spent way too much time on the road for such little reward. Missouri was a bust this year.

With as many people that are on these boards, there ought to be plenty of opportunities for hunting. I'm all up for swapping hunts, swapping fishing trips for hunts, or whatever. My favorite is getting new people into the sport. Seeing someone get their first duck is probably the most rewarding thing.

I'm trying to score a good deal on a 1860 or 1872 size jon boat that I can put a blind on and hunt the river here. If I can get that hooked up, then I'll definitely give you a call to help keep them brids from landing in the decoys. If you find us some land hunting spots, call me.....have decoys, will travel!

Sounds like all four of us should make a trip out to Lees place this year! Without having classes this year I don't get in state tuition!

Lee you will have a blast when you go at the right time I have been the last two years and am still learning but when I go with those Mossy Oak guys they limit out quite often and it makes for some good entertainment..
