Email from the DOT about KY Lake Bridge...

I had reservations to go camping at Kenlake next week, so today I recieved a forwarded email from the KY DOT about the bridge restrictions. There will certainly be some rethinking from the guys that use this bridge to haul bass boats, as well as campers. After reading the email, I contacted a close friend that is a KY State Trooper and he confirmed that 7.5 feet will be the maximum allowed and it will be enforced. Here is the email:

    Traffic ADVISORY

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to put up lane and width restrictions on the US 68/KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge at Aurora starting Monday, July 26, 2010.

The around the clock lane restriction is to allow full depth deck repairs and installation of a deck overlay to provide a smoother driving surface on the bridge. The work zone includes a maximum 7.5 ft. vehicle width which will limit traffic to passenger vehicles and pick-up trucks only. Traffic across the bridge will be controlled by an automated traffic signal.

The US 68/KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge crosses Kentucky Lake/The Tennessee River at the Marshall-Trigg Count County Line. The bridge at Marshall County mile point 27.891 and Trigg County mile point 0.0 serves as the western entrance to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

Due to the automated traffic signal with alternating traffic flow, delays of about five minutes are likely. However, some delays of longer duration are occasionally possible during the positioning and placement of equipment and when concrete is being poured.

Motorists who regularly cross the US 68/KY 80 Egger’s Ferry Bridge at Aurora should be aware of this work zone and the strict 7.5 ft. travel width restriction.

Approximately 3,000 vehicles cross Kentucky Lake on the US 68/KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge in an average day.

The contract requires the work to be completed within 60 calendar days. However, the contractor does not expect the work to take that long.

It was all over the news last night and in the papers, that sure knocks any body from pulling any kind of trailer across the bridge

We've seen this before in years past. There's usually a traffic light installed on each side.

So let me get this straight, 7.5 ft. max !! Most all 20+ ft. bass boats these days are 7.5 ft wide without the trailer !!!!

There will be a traffic light on each side...but you can't pull a boat across it during this time!!!

So....How does one get to the Moors on Friday pulling a boat from KY?

Was it critical for this to happen right now??? It seems they would've chosen a less busier time in the year rather than middle of summer when so many more people are towing vehicles or campers.

I hate that bridge and have not used it in over 3 yrs. Try crossing it towing a boat and you are as far over as you can get and meet a semi and all you hear is a very loud thud and your drivers side mirror folds into your door. That is way to close for comfort.

Didn't one of our crews boat and trailer get swiped at the rally we had a few years ago at Ken Lake when we all put in at Fenton? For some reason, I want to say it was Joe??
