Tennessee waters off limits for FLW events

Does anyone know why TN waters of Lake Barkley are off limits during FLW events?

It has something to do with the keeper size on smallies, I think....its 18" down there...and 15" in KY...

The 18" Smallmouth limit. They changed the limit to 15" for spots, smallies, and largemouth.

Yes, Barkley Lake in TN went with a 18" smallmouth limit. KY Lake in TN stayed with the 15" limit.

As if some one is going to weight in a limit of 15 inch small mouths off Barkley south, come on now

Yep the length limit for the Tennessee portion of Barkley is 18 inches, so the brainiacs at FLW made Barkley off limits in Tennessee. This has been a real big deal for some of the Anglers fishing FLW events and many of the Tennessee group are not fishing at all because of it.

They have the same rule in place for the Tennessee portion of Pickwick, and have lost anglers there as a result as well. But that's FLW for you.....

Well, if the limit is 18", there would be a lot of 15" - 17" readily available - doesn't it always work that way?

Catching a smallmouth of any size in the Tennessee portion of Barkley Lake is rare.

Looks like FLW should just put in an 18" smallmouth size limit and be done with it...better yet, make it 18" across the board, including spots! It would certainly make the weigh-in line shorter!

That's the way it was last year and it sucked.

But if you're in it to win it, then you shouldn't be worrying about catching fish under 18", right?

Tennessee, will at some point make the smallmouth size limit on Kentucky Lake 18 inches. Some last minute good old boy politics is all that kept it from happening when the rest of the state went to 18 inches. There is still a big push to get it changed to 18 going on right now. Then.....if FLW keeps their current thinking, you can forget about going south.
