    Little Help Please

Hey guys. I need some help or suggestions if you guys don't mind.

This Saturday, I lost a very good friend, Brian Mahaffey. He was a Deputy for Rockdale County Sherriff Dept. in Conyers, Ga where we grew up. He was a member of the Vice there serving a warrant for the arrest of a wanted rapist and kidnapper. During the raid, he was shot and killed leaving behind a wife and 2 young children.

Brian, like us, loved to fish and had a passion for it. Just about a month ago, he had stopped by my folks house to go fishing at the pond behind their place and was sharing photos of his kids with my mom and dad.

I'd like to do a fund raiser of some sort for his children for a possible college fund or however the family sees fit for its use.

I was thinking maybe a fishing tournament where portions of the entry go to the family. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Brian was a great man, a great teammate, and will be forever missed.

I know the Rally is next week and I will be there. We normally do jackpot tx's leading up the big day and maybe we could do something with one of those.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

You could do a benefit tourney, or maybe a raffle or two.

Seems like raffles have had great success here on BBC, especially if mentioned in the Lounge. I would think you'd get more support too that way from locals in the area that knew of Brian.

I would get in touch with Al and let him know what your intentions are and see what he could offer.

That is very sad to hear! Not sure if I'll be able to fish, but I will donate an entry fee (that's what I usually do anyway ).

If you decide to go the raffle route let me know, I'll throw a custom in the mix.

    Re: Little Help Please (Alliston64)

Sorry to hear about this Matt:

Tell you what...I had almost forgotten about the Challenge Side Pot I do every year at the Rally to raise money for Trooper Island...I think we can change that this year for this special case....so

NOTICE: To everyone coming to the Rally: Just as in the past, on the day of the Official BBC Rally Tournament (Saturday), you will have the opportunity to get into a challenge "Side Pot".

I hereby Challenge all teams in the Rally to enter this side pot for an opportunity to fish against me so you can tell your grand kids you "Kicked Dave Stewart's Ass" on his own lake.

If I win the Challenge...I will donate the money to the fund being set up by Matt for officer Mahaffey's Family. If you win, you will have the option of keeping the money or donating it...of course I will harass you into donating the money anyway.

This way, you not only get to support a great cause...but you get a chance to kick my ass on my lake.

The price of entry is 20.00 and you can join up when you pay your normal entry fee at the Friday evening meeting at the Rally.
