    Kentucky Lake CLOSED

I just got off the phone with the Coast Guard and the officer told me that Kentucky Lake is closed to all recreational traffic. Their website reported mile 0 to 206 was closed, but then that mile 0 was in Knoxville. Its a shame that they can't even report it correctly. Anyway, I guess I won't go to Kentucky Lake this Thursday.

    Re: Kentucky Lake CLOSED (stratos195)

***RIVER CLOSED FROM PADUCAH, KY., TO PICKWICK LANDING, TENN.***
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The U.S. Coast Guard Tuesday closed more than 200
miles of the western Tennessee River to recreational boating traffic
because of record high water levels and excessive river drift.

The Captain of the Port for Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley has
declared that no recreational vessels may operate in the established
safety zone from mile marker 206 (Pickwick Landing) to mile marker 0
    (Paducah, Ky.).

Commercial vessels are still allowed to transit the river and are
reminded to exercise caution when operating within the safety zone
and must maintain minimum safe speed to minimize wake effect to
moored vessels and other at-risk infrastructure.

    Re: Kentucky Lake CLOSED (GM482V)

How are they planning on enforcing it?

They don't have any patrol boats in the area anymore to my knowledge. The water is high but from what I have seen, it is no more dangerous right now than it is during any other high water event and they have never shut them down then.

Obviously they can't stop everyone....but there are a number of Auxilary boats out this week on the lakes....kind of like saying how can they catch me speeding on I-24, there are only so many cops...but it only takes one in the right place to make a believer out of you.

It is being done to protect the property around the lake from damage caused by wakes.

I think wake damage from a bass boat pales in comparison to the wake from a barge. If that is their reasoning, I hope that they have a button so that they can control the wind as well.

I talked to them this morning and they had no eta on when the ban would be lifted. Said they would "probably" send out another release when it is. Story up on http://www.Wired2Fish.com with their official release link.

    Re: Kentucky Lake CLOSED (Swerve-n-Protect)

Yep that's what I heard as well. Sending emails now and posting on their website in the next 20 minutes. Barkley/Cumberland is closed for 300 miles. Was closed yesterday.

One of my buddies bowhunted gar yesterday and said they were litterally in someone's yard shooting them. He said, "I wonder if the CG can get through 100 yards of trees to get me."

My other buddy said, "no but they can get to the parking lot where your truck is."
