    Is the platinum any better than hot maps on ky lake ??

    the platinum show contours in 1' not 5'...i had never been to ky till this year and the platinum helped me a lot

    yes its show 1ft contours and the 3d bottom the only thing is not all the bays have info on the them ! you can get an 06 for that and it has 5 ft contours !

    How does it compare to the Lowrance HDS5 w/ lake insight? been thinking bout adding one to it, but was told that it's not really worth it

    The basic HDS maps SUCK end of story no matter which one you get, where bad even on my 8 both mine came with the Lake insight mapping as well. Waste of money in my book! I am running the Platinum chips in mine

    the only thing is if you fish KY and Barkley you will have the countours in the bays that havent' been survied if you have the insight not all are on the chips... Plus it has lakes across the country and you dont have to buy a ton of chips ! Everyone i have talked with said the insight is the way to go ....
