Re: At what point do you start thin ... (A.J.)

AJ I feel your pain I have all but quit competitive fishing or any fishing, I have 2 boys 11 and 13 and between coaching soccer and 2 archery teams the last couple of years my time is limited but within the last year and a half we have began fishing the jr circuits (bass and flw) and now there would be a revolt if it were mentioned, I have had a blast watching them compete plus it gets me out and they have become flat ate up with it. Both are good athletes and very competitive with the youngest finishing third in the nation in his division in archery but I believe they would fish over anything else now.....just something to look into

ITS A SIGN!!! DON"T SELL!!!! Seriously AJ. My only advice here is one of my favorite sayings. "When you don't know what to do, do nothing at all." I've lived by it, and things always have a way of presenting themselves to you with the right answer.

My take on it is if you can sell it and not lose anything, let it go. They are making new boats every year.

A.J., I'm right there with you. My kids aren't quite as old as yours but the "stuff" is starting already. I'll never sell my boat unless it is to upgrade. The times I get to use it are well woth the $ I put into it. It keeps me somewhat sane. If my vote counts, keep it.

It is cheaper to take a guide trip with me a couple of times a year rather than make payments all year on a boat that is sitting in the garage depreciating...

Three kids and buddies with boats helped me make the decision AJ. Plus, Dave had a good point and with the way you fish you will catch more fish.

Same thing here with the kids....Mine is paid for but it would be nice to do some things around the house, like finish the basement. If I had a payment, it would be sold and I would get a decent, cheap, used, smaller boat just to get out when I could. Value is just depreciating on the boat your paying on I'm sure. There are a lot of ramps at most of the big lakes to where you could concentrate on different areas by trailering.

Re: At what point do you start thinking about selling your boat (A.J.)

I made do with a heavy, deep 12' jon during the years of year-round sports and coaching. I spent countless nighttime hours on Herrington usually in or close to the no-wake zones. I had several fishin' buddies that owned real bassboats and I fished tourneys weekly with them. There's no telling how many bass got released from that jon. I had a trailer for it or sometimes just shoved it in a truck. I waited until both boys were in high school to buy my first new rig. Good luck in your decision

Re: At what point do you start thinking about selling your boat (A.J.)

I pretty much ran a F/S from the time my son was two until he started his SR year of H/S. Granted that only left one ex wife my son and normally one of his friends to take out on family weekends but man we sure had a bunch of those when he was not playing some sort of sports. I finally got another DC bass boat when he was a SR in H/S. He is 22 now and still fishes with me when his class and our work schedules allow.

Two things I spent money I would do all over again in a heartbeat are the money I spent on the lot for the RV on the lake while he was young, and martial arts for him. Time on the water with family is simply priceless.

As for sports, I got so friggen aggravated at H/S football schedules and what they do to youth I could scream but that's another subject.

Good luck on this decision, it's one only you can make.

I've decided the boats going up for sale. This weeks a prime example why Monday football, Tuesday football, Wednesday baseball, Thursday football, Friday - Sunday baseball Tournament. I'll get another one hopefully after everything slows down and I get the two cars I'm restoring done.

Like said above, whenever you have some time to fish just get on here. You'll always have a ride. I know this from experience.

Re: At what point do you start thinking about selling your boat (dpage70)

    Guys,

I have thought about the same things. If a boat is paid for, I would keep it and just go when I could.
Is it just me, or do we put our kids in too much junk now? I mean, it is okay to tell a kid no every once in a while!! I have a 8yr old girl, a 6 yr old boy, and a 2 yr old boy. My two oldest just got through with ball, both made allstars and my 6yr old's team went to the state tournament. We practiced and played ball for a solid 6 weeks every day. It simply wore me out... now football starts in Sept. and some of the kids from his state team are playing fall ball and football at the same time. So, course my 6yr old wants to play both. I told him no, cause I didn't want to spend my entire fall at the ball park. Sorry for the rant, I just think we all need to slow down......

Man I feel your pain I coach HS football, basketball, on top of that I Coach my sons 2 SEPARATE Little League Baseball teams and their 2 JR. Pro basketball teams.

So I feel your pain. Having a CASH EATER in the garage collecting dust sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Re: At what point do you start thinking about selling your boat (A.J.)

Congrats A.J. on making a decision. I have been thinking about selling mine for the last year and have yet to make a decision.

I have been through the coaching and chauffeuring stuff and loved doing it, but candidly I am glad that it is over.

My boat is paid for and there are a lot of things I could use the money for, especially when I am not fishing very much. Knowing me though, I would probably just waste the money on foolishness. At least now I have the money tied up in a great investment...a bass boat.

The best advice I ever got on this subject is that the word is "Parent" not "Prisoner"
I love watching my kids play sports, but I'm not giving up my entire life!!!
