    Looking for a Barren Report

Going to Barren this weekend. Would like a little heads up on water conditions if possible. Temp, clarity, levels.

Re: Looking for a Barren Report (fishnfill)

Fished a tourney there last Sat. 5/23. Water is still up but they're pulling it pretty good. Temp: 76-78, with the main lake being warmer. Lake is clear all over with a little color at the banks but only about 6 inches deep. Tourney was out of the Port and fished all over the lake. A lot of holiday traffic and fishing was tough. It took 10.96 to win with second right at 5. All the fish that we caught came on shakey heads on bluff walls. Fish were hitting it on the fall. Early in the morning had some blow ups on topwater but no takers. Hope this helps

Another Tx last weekend had 17+ weighed in to win and several nice limits. The above post is dead on about conditions. They are pulling around 6-7 inches per day and it is 558.9, 6.9 feet above pool. Stay out of the visible bushes to catch numbers of fish. I hit one offshore spot yesterday evening and caught a 10 pound limit in just a few minutes. The crankbait bite is starting, but there are still some fish to be caught on plastic and on top early and late if you are in the right places, according to my buddies who have been on the water while I was on vacation. I just remembered that this is the Highland Games weekend. It will be crowded at the motels, they are probably booked up already. If you need lodging, you might try Scottsville.

Thanks for the replies. I was worried that it would be muddy. Thanks for the motel tip, may have to stay at a friends camp.

I fished Saturday thru Tuesday and the bite was decent for me all 4 days on top water and shallow. The top water bite held up most of the day as long as there were clouds. Struggled with plastics and jig. Water is clear and dropping a half foot a day. Good luck to you !

Re: Looking for a Barren Report (Apextrail)

The offshore bite is getting better everyday. I got to go for a few hours this evening and caught 18 - 20 bass. I guess 12 or 13 would measure 15" or better including 3 over 3 lbs. Everything else was 13-14. They were schooled up in one little sweet spot. All were caught there with the exception of a 3 lb. smallmouth that came off of a steeper point. Strike King crankbait and carolina rig. Now if I can only find a school of 4 and 5 pounders!!!

Re: Looking for a Barren Report (fishnfill)

Thanks for all the info. We just got home from Barren, The water was clear to a little stained on most of the lake. (Up river, around dam, and up Skaggs creek). The only really muddy water was at Peter creek. The temp ranged from 75 in the morning to about 78 in the afternoon.

We caught 8 to 10 keepers each day (fri. & sat.). Couldn't find the topwater bite. Was a little disapointed. Love to see them hit a buzz.

It was nice to have a heads up on the conditions, Thanks again.
