Welcome to the BBC.
There are some that are still running but there are alot more that are not.![]()
Well if there are more that arent than are is the 150 XP a good motor . What is the difference between a 150 Xp , 150Fitch , 150 Faststrike and so on .Final question on my lower unit to my 150XP the oil coming out of the lower screw is a dark brown or black and the oil coming out of the top screw is still a light brown. A friend of mine has a 70 Evinrude and his oil out the bottom screw is milky which I know means water most likely Thanks
Stay away from any of the FICHT's I had a 175 that was an absolute peice of JUNK!!!! I sold it and got an E-TEC NOW THAT's an OUTBOARD MOTOR!!!!
2005 Stratos 200 Pro XL
Evinrude 225 HO E-Tec / Raker 28 Pitch
I also had a 175 ficht and hated it. Every other time I took it out, a stupid sensor went out on it. If it was me, I would stay away from the 97-99 fichts. Some are good but most are bad. Do you feel lucky???

Oh boy, here we go again.......when the Ficht's came out from OMC in 97, 98, & 99 mainly, there were issues especially with the smaller V-6 motors (150, 175). There were changes in 2000 and update kits were sent to all dealers to correct the 90's motors. From this point on, I would not be scared of any of these motors. It also has a lot to do with how they are taken care of. Since this was a new technology, a lot of people didn't know or understand how to take care of them (running the right oil, decarbing, etc.). I had a '99 150 Ficht that ran great the entire time I had it. I know of countless Ficht motors that are still running that have had zero issues. When Bombardier bought the Evinrude/Johnson company they reevaluated the entire Ficht technology. They made quality one of their biggest priorities. The QC process with OMC was less than stellar which meant that clearances weren't as tight as they needed to be and som sub-par parts found their way into the motors. The Bombardier built DI motors are as reliable as anything out there and are really only surpassed by the new E-Tec motors. Bombardier wanted to get away from the Ficht name because people were so upset with OMC and continued to tie Ficht back to OMC, so Bombardier dropped the Ficht name in 2003 and simply put Direct Injected on the outside of the cowling where it had previously said 'Ficht Injection'.
The old XP motors are solid motors and were basically the predecessor to the Intruder/FastStrike motors. There are many of those still running that have had absolutely nothing done to them. I've also had a 150 Intruder that gave me trouble-free operation. All of those motors are carb'd. The Ficht's, DI's, and E-Tec's are all fuel injected. The E-Tec is the future and I'll be glad to talk to you anytime about the E-Tec technology if you can't find enough information on here.
I hope this helps with your questions.

Thank you for the info and history of the F-ficht problem. But I keep reading of this update. What does it consist of ? I had an update to my 99 225 done in 2001, I think all the dealer did was install new injector brackets and update the software. Is this all there is to it?
