    NOLIN Lake

I went to Nolin for the FIRST time and HATED IT. I didnt realize how LOW it was in winter pool. RAN aground 6 inches of water doing 20 mph in middle of LAKE and dinged up newly reconditioned prop. Fished and fought wind for 1 1/2 hours NOTHING.....Ran out of gas and trolling batteries went out (fighting wind) was being towed back by a fellow boater (TOON) whom also ran aground. So all in all bad day will not go back till summer pool. Lessons learned.

Winter pool is a good time to go and learn the lake but if you don't know it you'd best not run on plane. Sorry about your experience but at least you learned something. You may try going back and maybe try Barren right now too. It's low as well and will let you learn some structure.

I agree with learning the structure. I usually have a camera for that but not yesterday. It was a learning experiance. Where do most people put in at Nolin. I went to WAX?

if you don't know the lake it's better to go to moutadier..i was down there today but ended up at the wax end.it can be tricky to run now if you don't know it..we caught a bunch of small ones with 1 151\2 keeper and one 221\4" that would have been close to 6.5lb..fat as a hog.

If you don't have a GPS to to keep you on the river channel then running up around wax can get scary this time of year. Any of the lakes around here are really low and can cause a lot of problems if you don't know the water. Keith is right, put in a Moutardier. There's plenty of water down there. Were you in one of the T's? If so what did it take to win?

    Re: NOLIN Lake  (dpage70)

Dpage70, it took 12.25lbs to win the cabin fever open, and I think around 8lbs to win the Midwestern tournament. I actually won the open with my son, we weighed in 4 fish, and I lost 2 keepers either one would of filled out my limit. Water temps were 48-52 degrees, water is in pretty good shape. Caught all my fish early, and shallow, less than 4' on 3 of the keepers, and the other keeper my son caught flipping wood. Probaly caught 20 fish total, so it was a great day for me, just got tired of fighting the wind. Big bass was 6 something, and there was another 5 brought in, I had a 4.6, and a 4.3, that were fat, and their tails were blood red like they were fanning beds, but I know its to early for that.

Both of the big females had blood red tails, and the depth of water I caught them on they might of been making their beds, I just always thought the water temps had to be around 60 before they even thought about it, but I learn something new on these things every time I go out.
