Help! Mother of on of the missing boys needs assistance

New update posted as a reply 1/15/09

    Updates posted as replies below.

The mother (Lori Scott) of one of the young men they are searching Ky lake for, is in desperate need of info on how to get in touch with folks that can cut through some red tape and get additional professional help in the search for the two young men that are still missing. Below is an email that she sent to me and I ask that anyone who may be able to assist to call me at 270-978-1973..
"I am pleading for your help or anyone's help with connections to folks who
have search and rescue boats. We have contacted Texas Equa-search this
morning and they are trying to gain permision to enter the search area.
There evidentally is alot of RED TAPE to making that occur. We also have
the Stanley family making contacts with representatives and senators
(Nesler & Ken Winters). I need your help desperately. I would be
forever greatful for any and all assistance you can give. We need connections.

Can anyone have access to Mitch McConnell or even former politicians who
have those connections? Do you have any connections at Coast Guard,
    Frankfort, etc.??

Please take this email and forward it 100 times if you have to. We need
    JAKE and MACKENZIE home TODAY!!!!"

I graduated from High School with Ron Lewis' son so I'll call Brent and talk to him about this and maybe he will get his dad involved. He's not in the house anymore but he'll still have the contacts.

I have sent this to one in the Governors circle. I don't know if he can help but he will be aware of this.

I really do not know how to thank you guys enough and I'm not very good with words. Suffice it to say that I hope that each of you is blessed every day and I hope the rewards that are bestowed upon you are boundless. Thank you very much on behalf of myself, my co-workers and the families that are involved.

Re: Help! Mother of on of the missing boys needs assistance (vanbucy)

It seems that all of the calls and e-mails have helped to remove some of the stumbling blocks that were deterring additional assistance for the volunteers. Weather-wise, yesterday was bad and today will be worse. All of the smaller boats were of no use yesterday due to the wind. The good news is that today there are additional teams, boats and dogs arriving from Texas, Louisiana, and Illinois (may be others as well). Some of these teams are bringing bigger and better equipment that can withstand the wind speeds we are experiencing.

If anyone knows of others that are joining this effort please post here so we may offer our thanks.

Re: Help! Mother of on of the missing boys needs assistance (vanbucy)

This is from Lori and David Scott (the parents of Jacob Scott)

    All:
I want to thank each and every one of you for forwarding my email. Those
emails traveled hundreds of miles & most importantly, to people who can
help us. We received calls from various diving teams or rescue
organizations offering their assistance to us. My phone was ringing
continuously with people offering to help. We are hopeful for a very
productive day tomorrow as a result of your efforts to spread the word.

Here's an update on where we are with the recovery efforts:
Tonight, a larger sonar boat is doing scans starting at the KY Dam
travelling south to the markers placed where Trevor was discovered. This
boat will work all night tonight, marking and saving "blips" in the GPS
system so that further efforts can be made to put divers down in those
areas beginning early tomorrow to investigate the areas of interest.

Tomorrow,we have crews arriving from Texas, Louisiana, and Illinois. The
equipment from Texas is supposed to have high resolution sonar equipment.
My husband received a call today offering cadaver dogs capable of deepwater
rescue who are being flown in and will be here at "first light" tomorrow
morning (Wednesday). These two dogs come highly recommended. There's alot
of faith being put in these two dogs! One is named "Rosco".

The problem with Kentucky Lake is water clarity and stumps, and the results
of the tornado that came through the Moors Resort area a few years back.
There are still alot of debris remaining which give false hopes, appearing
on the sonar screens. If you know the history of Kentucky Lake, you know
that it was originaly homeplaces, businesses, forest areas which were
flooded to create the lake back in the 40's? by the corp of engineers.
Dragging operations are difficult as equipment & motors get damaged. The
other problem we are experiencing is the extreme weather conditions
hampering recovery efforts such as ice forming on the boats. The divers,of
course, are exposed to extremely cold water temps.

We have had such a tremendous outpouring of support by local rescue
organizations or other supporting organizations. We've had multiple
companies & businesses across Western KY bringing in food, propane heaters,
water, and other supplies throughout the day since Saturday. They have
kept the rescue workers fed, along with friends and family who have stuck
with us to wait for updates. We've had items you couldn't imagine donated
today, including vitamins! My husband, David, and myself as well as
Mackenzies and Trevor's family have been waited on hand and foot by
volunteers. These are volunteers who are not earning a single dime for
their efforts. There are volunteers who are missing work or using vacation
days in order to assist until the recovery is complete. We are currently
trying to find a way and a method to see that some of these workers get
some "love offerings" to meet their monetary needs because they are losing
paychecks for Jake and MacKenzie! Up until Trevor was discovered there were
huge numbers of people walking the banks and hills on the LBL side of the
lake looking for our boys. You could see flashlights, ATV's, horses, and
people on foot all down LBL shores. Friends we hadn't seen in years
arrived to walk by foot on the shore. There were estimated to be 300
volunteers walking, riding horses, and ATV's on the LBL side.

Pray hard for all of us, including Rescue organizations, and support
workers. We are forever thankful for you and your efforts to assist us.
We desperately need closure as we are all exhausted and overwhelmed.

Thank you from the bottom of our BROKEN hearts!

    David & Lori Scott

Re: Help! Mother of on of the missing boys needs assistance (vanbucy)

    New update from the Scotts

    Update:
The search was called off yesterday afternoon because of wind gusts
creating significant safety issues for the boats and rescue workers. The
boats are icing over. There is a wind advisory until noon today so we
don't expect them to go out until noon today. The weather definitely has
not cooperated. Rosco, the cadaver dog, a large yellow lab came yesterday
from Montgomery County, Tennessee. Rosco did give some areas of interest.
However, the winds were affecting Rosco. Where Rosco picks up his scent,
the scent may have actually originated from 100 ft away--the scent being
carried by the wind. We actually need NO WIND for Rosco. Rosco's owner
has agreed to return on Friday if Jake and MacKenzie have not been found.

At the small pavillion area at the incident site, Morissey Contractors came
and enclosed the pavillion so there is a haven to warm. Churches across
multiple counties, companies across multiple counties have kept the rescue
workers fed inside that pavillion area. We've had propane heaters donated
so inside the pavillion, as of yesterday, was a big help to escape the
elements. The plants & other concerned folks took care of seeing that the
American Red Cross had diesel fuel for their equipment.

The mobile incident command unit was set up yesterday due to the need for a
central control point with organization and data gathering. Today, we were
assured that additional people were being pulled to assist in that data
gathering and collection of info from all the various teams that have been
established. This will help with the chaos! There are hundreds of radios
between the teams so we really needed this incident command point to
    control communications in & out.

Please continue to pray that the weather will cooperate and winds will die
down where we can get the sonar equipment and divers back in the water.
Please pray rescue workers & divers stay safe.

Still searching for two of the boys. Had a lot of high winds that have deterred search efforts. Check out the post by the guys at Jet A Marina.
